Personally I don't think it's a total loss at all. Just wondering if the engine needs to be replaced judging from photos

Whatever there's gas in...
Yikesss. Hope your friend is alright!
Judging by the pics it doesn't look like it would be a total loss, actually looks like a great use of crumple zones! Tell him to throw a Brabus Bullit body kit on it and keep rollin!

Usually insurance companies rule of thumb is 70% of the ACV and its a total or around that number... doesnt look like 70% damage to me but its extensive.

Ok, so the car is at fletcher Jones which is notorious for high prices.
They've already hinted at $25K for the body damage.
The rep said if it needs a new engine that's $35K right there.
Just they're full engine inspection is going to cost $6k is what the guy said.
So at FJ it might just cost $70k to fix this $60k car. I'm guessing they might call it a total loss.
However, it's to FJ's advantage to have the car fixed so they might just aim at a number just low enough to win the job.
My question is, if they come back with a number like $40K, and insurance agrees, can my friend ask for that money in cash and then just sell the car on his own? Sounds like a reasonable thing to do and I don't see what the insurance company would give a shi7.
Thanks guys.

Actually dealer said $35k-$40k. If there in fact is an actual hand built component to these engines then I wouldn't be surprised. Especially if it has to get shipped here from Alfalterbach which could take months.l

05 C55
looks like a writeoff to me.
if there is engine damange then it's definietly a total loss.
i was in an accident with my C55 a few yrs back and it isnt even close to the damage i see in your photos and it cost $30k CDN to fix. it would be a miracle if it isnt writenoff.
i wouldnt want to keep a car with that damage on it anyway.

It's going to be close. Really depends on how bad the engine is damaged. If no engine damage it will not be a total loss. I'd say you're looking at 30k in damage and they will fix it.
