Rev limiter?

So.... I was a little late on my upshifts in manual mode a couple times and saw the red indicator light in the gauge cluster. Does anybody know if the C63 has a rev limiter or fuel cutoff to prevent over-reving the engine in these circumstances. I didn't feel an obvious cut in power when this happened so I don't know if I didn't go high enough to trigger it or if there just isn't one. Anybody know for sure?

That was the "shift light" coming on telling you to upshift

yes, your car has a fuel cut rev limiter.

Anybody know at what RPM the limiter cuts in? So does that make it virtually impossible to over rev the engine if you are late on a manual shift? The reason I ask is that there seems to be quite a bit of a delay between pulling the paddle and the shift actually happening. It almost seems like if you want hard max acceleration its better to just leave it in Sport mode and let the car do it for you, so you can keep both eyes on the road since things are starting to move pretty fast at that point. Any comments?

rev limiter should be around 7200 to 7300.

It prevents overrevs.

Its ok occasionally, but I wouldn't make a point of doing it regularly.

I've found a way to get it to 7200rpm in P or N.

I’ve had the shift light come on many times but never bounced off the rev limiter. When you go for WOT you should be mentally in tune with what’s coming to allow you to shift in time. Why would anyone want to rev their engine to 7200 rpm in ‘N’ when it’s not under load?

Mate, you’ve got good taste in cars.

I’m no expert on AMG engines but 7200 rpm without load seems an excessive risk to me. I’ve owned many V8’s from other manufacturers and have always been warned hard revs in ‘neutral’ is a catastrophic failure just waiting to happen. Maybe a more knowledgeable forum member could enlighten me on the strength of the AMG.

Rev'ing an engine not under load is not very good for it.

I am pretty sure it is terrible for your engine to rev high with no load. I would not suggest doing it.

Just for the record....my original question only related to what happens if you are late on a manual upshift, and I appreciate all the response I received on that subject. I have no interest in seeing how high I can rev the engine while sitting still. That was never my intention. But if anybody wants to find out I think we all know where the gas pedal is. If you are grown up enough to buy this car then I guess you can do whatever you like with it. Have at it boys !!!

Put it in N when you are moving, it will rev, quickly. Don't know how in P.

I call BS. Please tell us how to hit redline in park casue it ain't possible in stock form.
And revving to redline while standing still is NOT bad for the motor; it's bad for the transmission. So much misinformation on this board its funny.

Basically all you do it peg the gas pedal until it hits the 4k limiter, then you let it go and peg it again once the revs drop back down to around 3k ish and it should go to redline. Doesn't happen every single time so so you might have to let the rev drop a bit lower or higher before pegging it all the way. Mine went all the way to the fuel cut at 7500.

I take no responsibility for your actions, or broken ear drums, scared children or pets.

No risk to the engine. I’d be interested to know what it does to the transmission.
