general 63 question on the AMG motors

Has anyone attempted forced induction or turbos on it yet?

What is its weakness? Is it overbuilt as it appears to me?

Thanks

It's currently unknown how much FI this motor can take. What is current thinking is low boost - 5-7 pounds no more. Ideally using the small mitsubish turbos like BMW uses on the 35 motors. But this is a very expensive development so it will be a while before we'll see it. (and there's not much room in there to put the gidgetz and whtzits that do the FI).

I think you can easily put in a twin screw supercharger.

Twin screw = tranny detonation.

No, it has not been done. VRP started but there has been little progress.

Since they are now at about 570 normally asperated on the SLS, I would think that would be the route to take.

In the american tuner world the things we looked at for power adders on a stock short block were:

Pistons - we wanted forged pistons as they hold up better to detonation than hypereutectic. I don't know what the merc C63 has stock.

Compression - Anything over 9.5:1 and higher boost is a challenge (not undoable.... just more challenging). I'm running 14psi of centrifugal boost on a 9.5:1 motor now and the tune is critical to stay out of detonation. Colder spark plugs, 93 octane fuel, and conservative tune are a must... plus I ride around with a wide-band O2 sensor in the car to datalog runs occasionally just to be sure something hasn't come-up. My AFR across the rpm range in boost is 11.2 and drops to 10.8 at top rpm.

Fuel System - injectors / fuel pump / fuel lines..... not sure how overdesigned these are...... to handle another 100-120hp from 8-10psi of boost.

Cooling System - When you add a blower you get more heat..... but I suppose the stock amg system can handle it....

on and on and on...... tuning is fun and expensive

I am thinking twin turbos might be the way. Tranny was a good point, but I believe the MCT7 can handle it.
