female driver: '10 c63 or '09 cayenne gts?

getting my wife a new car (she's 25) and i'm thinking that the c63 might be too much power for her. so its a toss up between the '10 c63 (due out here in march) or the '09 cayenne gts (in stock).

what i'm looking for is for some feedback from the existing drivers of the c63 (i know it depends on the driver):

1-is the handling on corners as ridiculous as i've been seeing on youtube and other internet media sites?
2- is it too much power for someone who hasnt had that much experience driving?
3- any lemons or awful experiences with cars coming out of the assembly line?

or any other feedback. she likes both the c63 and the gts.

her dad wants her to get something out of the 's' class and thats just too big for a female driver. this will be my first benz posession and need to get some feeback.

thanks

We have a c63 at our vacation house in the states and my grandmother even drives it!
if you drive it like a normal human being, it's just a regular sedan!

If your wife is an adrenaline junky, and she'll drive like a psycho, go for the cayenne!

yea, the c63 can be very easily driven as a regular sedan. Its not like the videos on youtube where they drift on every turn unless you allow it to do that. If she is a speed freak and will push the car to its limits, i advise you to go with the gts, but if it is just a vehicle to go from point a to point b, then c63.

Yes
Do you have kids? If so get the Cayenne. Having an SUV with kids vs a sedan is huge.

Keep the gearbox in Comfort mode and leave full ESP on; it'll be as docile as anything out there.

But here's the question: What are your winters like?

thanks for the replies fellas. i wasnt too convinced of either the gts or the c63 but it looks like the c63 it is. i'm starting to lilke it, if she still wants it and doesnt change her mind. coincidentaly i saw a nasty candy orange '09 c63 not too long ago in my city. looks horrible but the profile was nice and low and it looked like it gripped the ground well.

we have an suv, ive got the '08 sport which is just fine by me. and no kids, just got married 2 months ago.

we dont have winters here. the lowest it gets is 17 celcius which is somewhere in the 60s farenheit if im not mistaken.

Good call.

Remember to get jet black (040) because they're faster than all the other colours.

Finally, it took 10 posts to ask for a pic? We need some visual assessment to make a decision.

Get her an M3, then you can go on M3post and tell them you bought your wife an M3 because it's more tame and slower than the C63. Post results back here.

I don't own a C63 and it all really depends on the woman, but....

From my experience, women that aren't car savvy and/or have normal driving skills (aka they're not interested in performance) might not like such a sports car.

I've had complaints before of the ride being too stiff, the car feeling too "heavy" steering wise, the exhaust being too loud (especially when cold), yadda yadda yadda yadda..... In other words, they got bored of it, and quick.

Also, (and this is nothing to the women drivers out there), my experience is that they may have fun with all the power, but are very lazy with it. They can get into trouble very very quickly (not speeding tickets, but curbs and guard rails), regardless of all the electronic nannies. Guys get in trouble with power because we purposely push it. Girls get in trouble with it because they don't think about it.

IMHO, if you really want to get her a "sporty" car, and like the C, why don't you get a C350 sport with all the accessories, bells, and whistles? It should have enough power for her to move, and if you throw some wheels on it, it may be the same as buying a C63 to her (sometimes all they care about is appearance).

The E and S have also gotten "big", but some women like boats as well. Maybe E coupe if she wants a 2 door?

Like I said, this is completely not knowing your wife (but judging by your comment of less driving experience) and only relating to my own past experiences.

Why don't you let her test drive cars she likes. My bet it won't be either. My wife hated my Cayenne and refused to drive it. Got her to test drive a C63 and told me she like the seats in her C350 better.

actually the m3 was an option. we saw it after the c63 and she didnt like the m3. i'd rather the b3 than the m3.

the merc dealer said that it doesnt matter when we place our order the first container arrives march/april for the '10 models. so we still have some time.

sorry no pics.

originally she wanted the '10 sport but tata has messed it up this year and range rover doesnt know if they'll be releasing one with an hst package. she really likes my hst sport so it looks like we might be alternating alot. so that might be a reason why i'm not too keen to get a 'c' and give it an amg kit.

thanks viper for the post. especially that part about the corners and not thinking about it. worried that handling the car with power on corners will get her spooked and might lead to something else. our roads are way too smooth and we have alot of curved on and off ramps. the bigger the car (like the 's') means theres more space to scratch the **** out of it. so thats a no joy.

cant really test drive the c63 here, they've sold out. we got merc to open up a bought and ready to be delivered c63 to give a feel of the interior. and theres only 1 gts left and its been sitting at porsche's warehouse somewhere in the city since the begining of the year.

thanks again all.

C63
1) I dont understand why people keep thinking the C63 is some unruly animal that is difficult to handle. It is one of the tamest, safest, best handling cars out there. Dry summer or winter ice and snow, it is extreemly good handling and reassuring to drive. In fact, in the last few days in several Canadian snowstorms Ive had no problems, yet I have passed numerous morons in trucks and SUV's trashed over curbs, smashed into each other etc.
ANY car can be too powerful if the driver is an idiot and ESP, etc. is NOT a sustitute for poor driving skills. If you dont want to drift the rear, dont step on the gas as much, its really that simple.
2) I am puzzled why anyone in fair weather climates or that never goes offroad would drive an SUV? Will your wife be driving offroad allot in the desert? Otherwise why would you need 4 wheel drive? SUV's are heavy, clumsy, handle like s**t and allot of people end up flipping them over. And its comical watching many women trying to park them.

Anyway, if shes not a speed nut, and can't utilize the potential of a "63", perhaps take a look at a C350 or E class in either a sedan or wagon. If she still really wants an SUV, have you tried the GLK350? It pretends to be an off road vehicle but is just a C class. (My Dad has one and it is actually quite pleasant to drive compared to bigger SUV's)
3) Regardless of what you choose, enroll your wife into a driving course so she will have better skills and be more confident and safe.
Just my opinion...

I think some of you are overlooking the fact that redRR will likely be spending a fair bit of time behind the wheel of the new vehicle that he intends to buy for his wife, so to eliminate the fun factor from the equation is probably a no go in his eyes.

I know that whenever I buy a car for my wife, invariably, I ask myself, "will I enjoy driving that as well?"

Oh man, you would have loved to meet my soon to be wife
She actually prefers BMW over Benz. She hates how soft the Benz is, how slow transmission shifts (We are talking about non AMGs here, we are not at C63 level, financially) She would rather drive her 325 over my CLK500. Stiffer ride and more responcive and she likes that. She would get the new M3 in a heartbeat if she could, and not because it looks pretty. She would use the power to its fullest and not by accidentally pressing the pedal too much.
We were at a BMW dealer yesterday, someone traded in Carrera 4s. I asked her if we had the money would she let me buy it, she didn’t even hesitate to answer, Yes. But not w/o sacrifice. I would have to share
Now that I think about it… I’m a lucky man.

Sorry

My 25 yo wife prefers the C63 over the Cayenne and we have had both. You need to let her drive both for an extended test drive and see what she feels more comfortable in... My wife likes the power and sound, but many people and girls in general could care less about it and would prefer the C350 over it. So it just depends on your's wifes likes and needs... But in our scenario, she likes the sedan over the SUV and she has had both the Cayenne S and Turbo. Good luck with your search. Both are incredible vehicles...
