2010 C63 would be the last 63?

According to InsideLine that all 2011 63 model would be replaced by a 5.5-liter twin-turbo V8 with direct injection.

This makes the 2010 model be the last C63.

I think the new engine would outperform the current one, although may not sound as good as 63.

Just rem, SLS is still big-block Merc, so get this last version while you can.
NA engine with good torque and potentials to mod.

How many read past "twin turbo" and noticed "C class" coupe available in 2011.

Oh nooooooo! This is what I feared most, this current powerplant is the key to my heart, not sure if a 5.5 is going to give me the same excitement, this really sucks, surely this new powerplant will sound nothing like our current ones, this bites.

I have my doubts about a 5.5 tt for the American spec MY2011. I believe at the very earliest would be the MY2012.

That's actually some awesome news for current c3 owners.

This means our car is equipped with possibly one of the most powerful NA V8 engine ever built by a car company, with the Ferraris and Bentleys of this world. If the car is only available 3-4 years total, think about the resale value of this baby! The demand for a used C63 is already a lot higher than the offer, I can't even find one for sale in my province. All around Canada I can probably find 2 or 3, that's insane =)

Already priced well, this car will keep an amazing value for a long time, as long as gas prices don't sky rocket!

i read somewhere that mercedes is going to try to keep the 63 name with their new 5.5tt engine. Reason being is that it is reputable with customers, and it wouldn't look so great if the newer cars started having lower numbers than the older cars because to normal, uneducated car people, more is better. I dont really agree with this though. I also dont agree with how they badge the 63's as 63's and not 62's. Not to mention how they have 6.3 on the sides of the cars!

I have read two things about the 63, one it has to do with the the old 300sel 6.3 that was entered in AMG,s first race and their 40 year anniversery (2008) and second was the displacement was too high over 6200cc and German law states that it must be rounded off to 6.3 and not down to 6.2 or something of that nature.

I understand that some german regulation requires them to round up 6.21 to 6.3. If they are going to that trouble, I say they should have rounded it up to an even 7.0

I doubt in the long run, that a C63 with n/a motor will be worth more in resale. Everyone is going FI and the modding potential on the FI is way, way up there (remember your n/a mods are simply trying to get the car to the level of the E and SL class motors and that's it. You can't go much beyond that with a n/a) The torque potential with a TT will be insane.

The value of a n/a C63 will be overshadowed by people flocking to TT choices in all the performance brands.

With BMW going TT with the M3 and F10 M5, the competition will be fierce. And buyers will flock to FI drivetrains. And don't forget Audi. MB had to go this route.

Don't get me wrong, I love n/a motors. I like the linearity and smoothness of the powerband, and the sound. Hey, I own two (E63 and 911.)

But the reality is FI technology has evolved dramatically and is light years beyond what it used to be.

I have raced some turbo cars as well as N/A cars including shelby cobra (9.8 sec 1/4 mile, NA!) and I can say a turbo car just can't match the feeling of N/A engine (I prefer supercharger to a turbo any day).

There will always be that turbo lag followed by a big acceleration. The lag can be reduced to a minimum, but it's always there.

I feel other people feel the same way and considering the demand is a lot more than the offer, buyers will be there to own possibly the best V8 engine on the market today.

AMGs have the worse resale value. Look at my C36 the first ever AMG built. But its virtually worthless now.

No disrespect but any car from '95 is worthless now.

Everyone is going FI, but isn't rarity exactly the opposite? Having something nobody else has that has been produced in very limited numbers?

This is exactly why this is a good thing for the 6.2L c63, versus Mercedes keeping a similar model for a couple more years...

If people say this AMG has a poor resale value, please find me a cheap used C63 in Canada, the model has been out for 2 years and price is still very close to retail...

I can't even begin to fathom the HP figures these 5.5L twin-turboed engines will yield. The Porsche 911 GT2 pushes 530hp from the factory--and that's only from a 3.6L TT engine. Let's say MB goes with smaller twin turbos, the 5.5L displacement and the big gains from after-market mods for twin-turbos would STILL be unimaginable!! I wouldn't be surprised to see figures of 700 or 800hp or more.

Sorry, but no N/A engines can get up to that range without mortaging the farm. I feel sad. haha.

G55 & SLK55
I believe MB will keep the 63 on the SLS AMG and the C63, otherwise the line up will consist of twin turbo V8 on E-class , CLS and SLK( lower hp ).

S, CL maybe one AMG model, only twin turbo v12.

G55 Possible stick to M113 K or a 6.3 v8.

This is what I've been told

Mercedes' point is to lower emissions and gas consumption, I doubt they'll produce a 800HP C63! It's probably going to be around the current HP. Price is also unknown, and will the engine be hand built? A lot of questions remain unanswered if you ask me.

Changing turbines and pressure will yield good power, but in the end, it's a 5.5 engine, not 6.2, meaning ultimately the bigger engine always wins if you want to see it as a "mod war", with 6.2 engines fitting MB twin turbos LOL

Also one of the most amazing thing about the 6.2L c63 is the sound, I guess we'll have to wait and see for the new model =)

No disrespect, but that's incorrect.

Just off the top of my head, the 1995 M3 LTW is a great example. Admittedly limited ed., however you won't find a nice one anywhere for under low 30's - nearly 15 years after it left the showroom. The '93 RSA is another good example of a early 90's vehicle that's held it's value extremely well. Oh, and have you ever searched for an early 90's Supra? I have, just for S&G's, and they're far from worthless.

I agree with the previous assessment - for high-performance, (relatively) low production vehicles, AMG's depreciate like the proverbial lead balloon. Hey, it is what it is... certainly works well for the 2nd or 3rd hand owners.
