Boys - Your Wishes Have Been Granted...Blown AMG's

Looks like no more NA engines for the AMGs...

Looks like this is going to be in time for the launch of the new M5

How long will it take the likes of REnnTech / LET, etc.... to learn how to tune the direct injected TT motor?

2 - 3 years?

Does AMG help the aftermarket world get up to speed?

Great. I've mixed feeling about this one. There's nothing like the sound of a NA engine, but the FI can potentially yield more power at a cheaper cost and better fuel economy. WTF....maybe I should've waited a year to purchase an AMG w/ 5.5L Bi-turbo.

2010 C63 / 2009 GL450
I am sure that future generation of 5.5 L Bi turbo engine will have better performance figures and better economy. The car as a whole will likely perform better. Having said that there is something absurd and decadent about having a largest engine possible placed in a small four door saloon. My wife's GL450 has much smaller engine than the car that GL dwarfs when sitting side by side.

I am sure that some of us bought this car for this decadent pleasure of KNOWING than the absolute ability of the car. This is not to say that 5.5L in a car of C class' size is 'reasonable.' But 6.2L? That's another story. I feel lucky to have purchased 2010 C63, the last year of the 6.2L rather than another C55 if MB truly does go ahead with the new engine.

Just a thought...

I too, purchased the 63 knowing this will be the last "big" NA engine AMG will install.

At the very least, we can claim having the last big NA AMG engine that's capable of 500+ hp. No remorse in that!

Well, mixed feeling here

NA engine - Good because of the noise it generates

FI engine - well easy power ups and cheaper and better fuel econ

What would make us all happy?

6.3 FI engine

This is older news, and I dont see this until at least MY 2012 or the facelift W204 is interduced in the states. It also looks like the W205 will be on the market in 2014 and will have a V6 350tt and a V8 5.5tt.

Soon we will all be driving suped up vacuum cleaners and our beautiful N/A engines will be a distant memory. Not sure I'm happy about this.

Is there an aftermarket blower for the 6.3 yet? Or turbo kit? Or stroker kit? Kleeman?

No need to knock the n/a 6.3....... I've had power adder cars and n/a cars, and if you can get the HP/TQ you want N/A you're generally better off.... less heat generated, less complexity, less things to break wearout, less weight, and "generally" high reliability, less chance of heat soak, less chance of detonation, etc.....

I'm not knocking boosted cars..... because we all know how easy it will be to simply up the boost on a TT car visa-vis the waste-gate or most likely through the computer........

This change is most likely a reaction to the current global-green trend..... BMW is doing it too..... trying to make the consumer believe their cars are earth friendly....... not much earth friendly about a 6.2 liter monster

But I bet once the gear heads get ahold of a TT5.5 liter...... the fuel savings will be gone..... you need alot more fuel added for a boosted car than you do a n/a car to stay on the conservative side of detonation when you are modifying a motor for performance.

You guys need to wait and save your $$$$ for the 7.0L stroker kit. You put heads and cams on top of a 7.0L stroker and you'll be hard pressed and years away from beating it with the new TT 5.5L. "When and IF" you can ever tune it. Like has been said already I LOVE the sound, overall reliability, and simplicity of a large N/A motor. We have the best N/A platform ever made by AMG so lets celebrate what we have and look forward to better parts on the horizon.

dads c63 is right . praise what you have now . i agree that we have the best motor out there . parts are expensive but imagine how much more they will be on a forced induction car . by the time the forced induction cars come around , the n/a car will be making monster power . theres no replacement for displacement .

I agree with SIN BAD DAD...

I am running it stock right now (probably for 2-3 years) and then will start examining mod potentials and upgrades which will be like a "remodeling", making the whole car and experience new again for an already powerful engine.

I have a strange feeling that down the road the C63 may be a collecters car.The MY2008 is more than less a AMG 40 year anniversery model and in the near future the big block V8 is history and that will be a sad day indeed......

When I heard there was going to be a turbo'd 5.5 it made sense to me that our 63's residual will improve. Win win for everyone, right?

Cheers to us. Does this make our rides instant collector items?

Porsche 991S, Cayenne S, 1972 BMW 3.0CS E9 Coupe
These cars will not become collector's items. Get real.

Everybody is going FI and enthusiasts will flock to them. The F10 M5, M3 TT, AMG TTs. Our cars will become old USA style muscle cars and a novelty.

Modding the new FI AMGs will be insane and a new cash cow for Kleemann, Renntech, etc. Downside is that n/a modding R+D will come to a stop. There's no more point to trying to squeeze tiny bits of power out of these cars at such a high cost.
