let the engine and tranny warm up and go hard or follow the manual break in period, not much too it.

Really, there’s not much more you can say. I drove mine in all modes for the break-in and tended towards the hard route when able.

Read the manual and read the sticker prominently displayed on your windshield. MB knows that the internet is rife with misleading info that people listen to, that they put a freakin sticker right in front of the driver's line of sight with break in instructions! Yet people still won't follow MB's instructions.

Like everyone else, I would just follow Mercedes instructions. Thats what I did and haven't had any issues.

Here's an interesting tidbit - when I was at the AMG Academy a couple months ago, I asked my assigned guru what the constant high revs / general abuse the cars (particularly the C63s) go through does to the engines (since most of the C63s were under 1k miles). His reply (open to discussion) was that the 6.3 engine is the most race car-designed engine AMG has ever produced, and it could take - nigh eat up - the abuse.

Thoughts?

I was told something similar in difference words when discussing the run in procedure with a friendly dealer. There will always be cases where something goes wrong but it’s few and far between. Usually a failure will be due to a bad or faulty component and will just as likely happen when treated softly. The general rule is, it’s as tough as. Mercedes definitely wants you to baby the car, in fact if they could have their way as would all manufacturers, they’d love you to buy the car, take it home and never drive it. That way warranty will never be an issue. It’s a nothing question really, if you don’t wish to risk it, do as the manual says. If you’ve been around the block with performance cars you may feel they are designed for a bit of aggression. Only you can make the decision on risk, what I or anyone else believes is irrelevant. I’ve tracked new cars at the invitation of the dealers I’ve brought them from with less than run in miles and have never been told to take it easy. I’ve only ever had two failures, a fuel pump at the track where the dealer said lucky I have two in the car so I can drive home and told me to drop by tomorrow and they’ll replace it and one when the dealer was driving it, doing burnouts on the skid pan and destroyed the clutch.
