Just drove the new E63
Just test drove the new E63. Just around suburban streets. What a gearbox - can't wait til they make the C63 available with this new gearbox. So responsive to any command - no delay whatsoever. Makes the C63 transmission look and feel dated.
Anyone else with any thoughts after a drive?

I haven’t driven the new E63 so I’m taking a risk by repeating what I’ve read in a number of reviews and they all say it changes quicker but is not as intuitive. It’s particularly noticeable in city traffic when it searches more for a gear, apparently it's a killer in manual mode though.

shifts are a little slow from 1st to second gear in the C63. thats a fact.
but also smoother in crawling raffic, witch i do alot of.
Don't forget that the c63 cost is almost half of a E 63. plus I would guess that the C63 Is almost as fast as a E63 in straight line (especially from 0 to100) and faster than a E 63 on a circuit.
C63 rules.

The local Porsche dealer brought out a new Panamerica to our cars n coffee. $97,000 for a performance sedan with 400hp seems like a walk off grand slam for the new E63!!

From Motortrend:
Under the hood is the same 525 hp, AMG-developed 6.2-liter that powers the E63 sedan. It drives the rear wheels through the same AMG Speedshift 7-speed transmission. Up front there's the same wide track suspension layout, and quick ratio rack and pinion steering. In back, there's between 24.5 and 68.9 cu-ft of load space, with a split-fold rear seat, dual level load floor and a collapsible crate.
It's practical. And fast. We've just nailed a 4.1 sec 0-60 time in the E63 sedan (stay tuned to MotorTrend.com for Sport Sedan Cagefight Round 3 as it takes on the reigning champ, Caddy's storming CTS-V) and the E63 wagon weighs within 100 lbs or so of that. If you order the optional AMG Driver's Package, which includes a mandatory high performance driver training course at the AMG Driving Academy, the fun-loving guys at the AMG factory in Affalterbach, Germany, will tweak the electronic speed limiter, boosting the top speed from 155 mph to 174 mph.
It has launch control. You can order it with massive ceramic composite brakes and a locker diff. Yes, it's expensive, but it drives like a supercar and will haul all your stuff, 24/7, at the same time. So it's really two cars in one, and if you look at it that way the E63 AMG wagon might just be the best value performance vehicle on the planet.
So what's not to like about it, America? The boys in Affalterbach were just wondering.

I drove the E63 about a month ago at my dealer, first off, I wasnt impressed with the sound, the C63 has a much louder bark and mean tone, where as the E63 seems to be a little deeper, I for one, at my stage in my life I prefer the more aggressive tone of the C63, the car doesnt seem as fast, probably due to the weight, it also for obvoius reasons doestn seem as nimble, the interior of course is a notch above of our cars....all in all, if I were a little older (currently 39) and wanting the extra comforts but I am still hanging on to my muscle car needs, then this car would completely satisfy me, but at this stage in my life, I do prefer what I am driving....also, the visual appeal of the E63 in person was a little dissappointing, it definetly has a very soft and subtle look.

C63 tranny is my least favorite part of this car. It can feel granny slow at times and my 1st to 2nd shift when I go WOT at or above 3k in 1st it just misses 2nd completely and feels like it's going to drop from beneath the car. It's happened 5+ times now.

In C or S mode, I find that if you downshift once with the left paddle, then accelerate, it will be much more willing to downshift further to an appropriate lower gear - at a much quicker pace too. But then you have hold the right paddle to return to C or S mode.
Maybe someone can also test and confirm.

For base AT trasmission I think that its not bad but not fast for sure. Like with M3 SMG CSL I had did shift up and down in just 0.08 sec. I mean that was fast. Yes I heard that ISF shift fast and connects fast.
I dont know about E63 but I heard that its very good. For sure need in C63.
