Michelin Pilot Sport Cup on C63 anyone?
Yeah, I know another tire thread.
I'm about to buy new rear summer tires for my C63.
I was thinking of going with either the Hankook Evo V12, Sumitomo III, or Dunlop Z1 star spec.
Now I'm thinking, why not go all the way with the michelin pilot sport cup tires.
I hate it when the rear loses traction when accelerating in first and second gear.
I just want to fell the full foward blast that the C63 is capable of.
I do realise that wear is probably going to be even faster that the OE Pzeros and that I should be more carefull in the wet.
I figure if they put these tires as OE for 911 gt3's and gt2's putting them on a C63 could be a good idea.
So i'm wondering if anyone has put MP Sport Cup on their C63?
Any input welcomed.

Paul, kiss those babies goodbye real real quick, a good frend of mine replaced his OEM Michelins with these on his Aston Martin DBS and we laughed at how well the car hooked and laughed even harder at how fast they were done....you might want to see if they sell them at a two for one deal, because you may need at least three sets for this summer. But boy are they fun!!

The thing is that I'm really itching to see just how fast the C63 can launch.
This is a battle between emotion and reason.

Nicks right. Great tire for Road Course but with a wear rating of 60 they are short lived...
It would be a crime to waste these strictly for "Launch" purposes. Why not try a Drag Radial on the rears??

That tire is the best street tire I ever used. It came with BMW M3 CSL. In dry it sticks like crazy. But in rain yes its bad but not bad as you think. Well power difference between CSL and C63 is different so I cant say how it would be in rain with C63 but for CSL it was not that bad. I wanted to put on my C63 but just dont have the money to put that on. I think that it would not last that long.

Dunlops are way better than the PS2 in the dry and equally as good inthe wet. Give me a sec while I find the car and driver review where they were testing these tires and the dunlops came out miles ahead.

To the OP, I've run the Cups on my P-car and they wear super fast. Great track tire but not a good overall street tire, imho.

I ran the PS Cups on my stock rims and loved them. 235/40-18f and 265/35-18r. Great setup, once they got hot.
My problem with the tires is that I like acceleration. A lot. Unless the tires are nice and warm, they haze out pretty seriously when you mash the gas pedal from a stop. Doing this over and over again didn't do much for their lifespan...
However, they absolutely RULE in the twisties. There's a lot of really fun canyon roads in SoCal, and these tires are just the **** for that kind of driving.

That is correct and although cups are king of the "street legal" racing tires I think you lose way to much longevity for not that much gain in "at the limit" performance. I have been running Dunlop Star Specs and I could not be more pleased. After ~5,000 miles including 6 track days it is time for some new rears(familiar story). But during this time this set of tires has performed magnificently, especially during the DE weekends at the track. They make about 500 lbs of weight virtually dissapear with the vise like grip they have in the corners. I have lots of sessions on You Tube under REDC63AMG where my car is glued on smaller, lighter cars waiting for a point by.

Nothing you put on this car will stop the wheel spin. It sucks!! I went with 275's to try to stop it. Ill let you know when it gets above 50 degrees if it worked. Right now the cold performance on the Hankook is as good as my bald P Zero's.

Still thinking...

Thanks for all the input guys.
Over here in Quebec you can put your summer tires on no sooner than the 15 of March. So I'm really begining to get that "summer's back itching sensation".
As it stands, I'm still changing my mind daily about what tires to put on the rears.
Here is a summary of my perceived pros and cons for each tire with price for a 265-35-18 from tire rack.
1- Sumitomos HTRZ III 163$
+ not expensive
+ some guys on this forum like then a lot
+ assymetrical so you can change left-right wheeels
+ don't feel bad for going through them quickly
- probably lesser quality in general
2- Hankook evo v12 169$
+ very good results in car and driver comparo:
http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/...12_evo_page_10
+ price
+ grip
+ rain / standing water performance
- cornering / track
3- Dunlop star spec 236$
+ king of the hill according to car and driver (sport cup wasn't tested)
http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/...r_spec_page_11
+ very good grip
+ Decent thread wear for the performance it delivers
+ heats up quickly
- noise (all tires with big blocks IMO)
4- Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 315$
+ you only live once so why not try them at least once. Anyways your car is depreciating around 8000$ per year so in the big picture are they that expensive???
+ leach-like grip
+ they look the part (yes I know. The thread design has nothing to do with performance but IMO a good looking thread desing complements the look of a car)
- water...oh no
- seeing them melt away like ice cream before your eyes
On well still got a few more weeks to make up my mind.

RE-11 is really nice tires. In Japan most people with high performance car go with RE-11 or Advan Neova AD08. They always battle with each other. Both are nice tire. Personally I like Advan tire. I have Advan Sport this is OEM tire for Japan.

Most say the NT05 is like a cross between an Invo (Max. Summer) and an NT01 (R-Compound Road Race). The reviews online (there are a ton of them if you Google "Nitto NT05 Review") say this tire is the perfect blend of street and track.
They are also much lighter than the Direzza Sport Z1 Star Spec.
NT05
245/40-18 = 25lbs
275/35-18 = 28lbs
Star Spec
245/40-18 = 27lbs
275/35-18 = 32lbs
BTW, Renntech's C63 cut a 1.757 60' time on the NT05 street tire. That's some serious traction. Post here -> https://mbworld.org/forums/c63-amg-w...le-record.html
