Fog Lights? Driving Lights? Reverse Lights?

Fog Lights? Driving Lights? Reverse Lights?
Ok guys, this might seem like a dumb question but I have had my c63 for over a year now and still cant quite figure out what is up with the fogs lights. Ok, when you put the car in reverse the passenger side fog light illuminates. When you put in drive, the drivers side illuminates. When you put on turn signals, the fog light on the side turn signal is illuminated. What gives? I undersatand the turn signal/fog light part. Just not understanding why one comes on with reverse and the other only on when in Drive. Looks like I have a burned out bulb. Any way around all this other than driving with parking lights on and fogs on? Is this some German standard?

I haven't noticed the foglights coming on in R and D, but they do come on when I have the lights on and turn the wheel, with or without the turn signal on (I turn left, and the left side fog comes on, etc.). Could it be that what you are seeing is the lights coming on as you turn the steering wheel while putting the car in D and R?

Hey Nick. Anyone with a Star Diagnostic should be able to turn this feature on and off. Steve from NLBenz turned mine on in my C55 while he was here back in 2006. I would think it would be the same thing in the 63's

Is it possible that your wheels are pointed to the right? seems like your cornering aid is worling properly and maybe when you notice the fogs turning on your wheels are pointed in that direction.

On both the 335 and the C63, when putting it in R, the "cornering" lights turn on.
If your steering wheel is cocked in one direction or another, when you put it in drive, it will light the light on that side.
Even when totally straight, using the indicator will turn on the "cornering" light for the same side.
Must be a german thing as both my cars do it.

Thanks guys! Looks like my C63 has out smarted me. I didn't realize it knew when my wheels were turned. Makes alot of sense, when I was backed into my garage, the wheels were turned to the left, hence the left fog light kept coming on. Now that I understand how this works, I also realized that while in reverse the light work opposite of being in drive. Reverse turn wheel to right, left fog comes on and vice versa. Leave it to those Germans to make us dumb Americans scratch our head. I like it!

Also, per manual, it only happens below 25 mph and it has to be dark enough for it to happen. If you are doing some slow driving, and don't want it to happen, just turn on the fog lamps so they don't look burned out.
I actually think it is cool when I'm driving, but I've seen a C350 doing it, and my first instinct was to stop him and tell him he had a burned out fog lamp ...then it slowly faded off as he finished the turn
