Kleemann ECU upgrade. Who to use

I am thinking of doing a stage 1 Kleemann upgrade before I put my new c63 on the road....This will done by sending in my ECU by Fed Ex. What tuner would you use. Thanks...........

If you're doing a Kleeman K1, I'm assuming you'd be using Kleeman as a tuner?

If you're trying to decide which ECU to do, there's threads on it and it's mostly preference. Personally I don't think you can go wrong any of 'em. Good luck.

If you have someone local that has the equipment to flash it, then use them. We don't have anyone here in Vegas so I just sent my ECU to Cory @ Kleemann. Sent it in Monday afternoon and got it Wednesday.

Get your dealer to do it and pay the higher cost and keep your warranty.

This is what I will most likely end up doing. Dealer want $400 over Kleeman to ship, etc......which I think is too high!

If the dealer does the re-flash do you think MB will still honor the warranty if they find out it has a dealer re-flashed PCM in the car? I don't think MB will be required to honor the warranty any more than a re-flash from any other aftermarket vendor. Your only hope might be that the dealer will work with you and not disclose the fact to MB. If MB does find out then I think you and the dealer will be in deep dodo.

False security?

This dealer is a Kleeman and Renntech. Seems like they would service what they sell, but you never know.

You can bet they will if they want a good business reputation. Wouldn't you rather go to a mod friendly dealer?

I certainly would!

If you subsequently lose an engine or a transmission and MB declines the warranty because of arguments about the tune then do you really think the dealer will or should come good for it? I think I would want to know in advance and in writing.

Who would ever take the ECU into a dealer with a broken car with an ECU upgrade?

I'd let the car sit while the ECU was flashed back to stock, and then take it for repair...

Don't ever take a car into a dealer with an upgraded ECU...that is the easiest thing for them to find fault with...

I agree with you. They probably play the startegy of : yes , it is ok with us, we don't mind you having a Renntech or Kleeman tune" but if something major happens I doubt they will back it up.

Unless is on writing(like you said) I wouldn't trust them, they are risking potenmcially lossing a lot of money on repairs.

Are you talking about removing the charcoals? Because the only "custom" thing I see you can do to a NA airbox top is to remove the funnels and replace with custom made/cast Euro funnels.

It is all about smoothing the air to the MAF.

Thanks for the pictures!

Hmmm.....I suppose I can grind down the rivets and smooth out the overlapping flange on that inner tube.
