I guess the wet clutch setup of the MCT solves the weak link (torque converter). This new motor and MCT tranny will not ever be found in a $60,000 car.
I wouldnt be so sure. Technology finds its way down into lower priced cars all the time. As they recoup the r&d on the tranny and then find new, faster and more efficient ways to mfg the tranny it will find its way into other carsand eventually it will be in the entrys. It may not fit our timetable but eventually it alwayys does.
The company I work for developed a new technology for image detectors and after 3yrs it was cheaper for us to produce the new technology than the old way we had been doing it for the last 35yrs. At first we made extra profit on the product because everyone wanted the new technology and it demanded a premium, but as time has eveloved it is now making its way into the entry level products. Everyone wins , the customer gets a better product and the company makes more money.

I would love to have the mct in my car though.

Sure did and it was a great morning....

2005 saw the debut of the AMG 6.3-litre V8 engine known as the M 156. Depending on the model, this naturally aspirated, high-revving unit develops up to 386 kW (525 hp) and 630 newton metres.
5.5TT with performance package has 571 hp. In this case the eight-cylinder delivers 875 newton metres of torque at just 2000 rpm, with a constant 900 newton metres available between 2500 and 3750 rpm

A 30% increase and when coupled with a 300 lb weight reduction and easy mods, well you can imagine.

I don't think I can tolerate a start/stop feature on my car. I hope there is a way to deactivate it.

The TT set up will be great but I believe tuning will be VERY difficult if/when ever accomplished. The manufacturers are doing a great job of keeping expert tuners out of the ECU. Many tuners are still seeking ways into the newer programs with no success. Thats why piggy back set ups are having to be used in many cases and that usually creates nightmares.

Remember that with L/T headers and a matching tune you will be making the same HP with less torque than the new TT. However, put in a heads and cam combination and the new TT will be left behind.

Where did you see a 300 lb weight reduction? The article on Edmunds says the new 5.5 actuall weighs more than the current 6.2 engine (all the plumbing I suppose....), and I'm trying to remember the last time a new model from Benz, BMW, or Audi wieghed less than the previous version. That's why we keep getting the horsepower increases, cause the cars keep getting heavier.

It probably won't have the same grunt because the turbos will mute the sound a bit. You can always replace the diverter valve(s) with blow off valve(s). Pfft....Pfft.....

Ha Ha....

It is kind of weird to be reading about potential improvements to the car and I haven't even taken delivery yet.

I think I am going to be happy anyway.

I was speaking about AMG's weight reduction goals. They have written quite a bit consistently over the last 4 years about it and lectured at auto events about what they call Sustainability.

True, but just a tune and no hardware on the TT (when the tuners figure it out) and we with all our hardware and mods will be left very far behind.

They need top put a all wheel drive version of the cars equiped with the 5.5 tt engine if they want to put all that power and torque down and not just spin the rear wheels IMO.

You bring up an interesting point but I'd worry about the extra weight from the AWD system.

I spoke with one of the amg technical guys last month and the 5.5 tt wont be coming out in the c class. not enough room under the bonnet apparently.
