Because it's allegedly been 6,000+ miles since the last one, the next one isn't for another 250 days, and I don't like to go the full 15k miles (or whatever the default interval is) between changes.

Lastly, I examined the oil and it's pretty dark and in my opinion, needed to be done now (which set me back just $60). Cheap insurance.

I did take a sample and am sending it to Blackstone Labs for testing.

But anyway, thats a good question. Assuming the previous owner did the service A at 10k miles, I would just reset it and maybe go in early for the next service. Best bet though is call the service center and ask a technician.
Cause no one touches my cars besides me...

would it be better to suck the old oil out with the engine cold and sitting over night? if you start up the car you will get oil circulating everywhere and not get all the old crap out.

only issue is that first dry start up with new oil.maybe let the car warm up and then wait 45 min after to suck it out?

Honestly it's super cheap and easy insurance to lower that change interval to 5k miles IMO. Blackstone analysis is fine to do, but 15k can't be good regardless of the results.

This. After a drive, let the car sit for 30min, then do it. Warm oil is easier to pump out.

"Super regular" oil change will save you multiples of whatever it may cost you, even if for no other reason than catching any issues earlier.

Just ordered mine. Last oil change they left the hood unlatched and the filler cap on the strut tower. Never again!

This is fantastic, I am about to perform the oil change for firts time on my own.
the dealership told me the C63 AMG takes 10 quarts, but you use 9.
I'm not sure if I should use 9 or 10 based on the dealership recommendation.
also, can I use Royal Purple 0w-40 or should I stay with the mobil synthetic oil?
does the Mityvac will drain the oil cooler as well?

Don't listen to the dealer, read the manual: 9 Quarts including 0.5 Q for the oil coolers.

Hey Critter, after you performed an oil change, how do you reset the service board or messege in the dash?
do I have to take it back to the dealership for that?

You reset it yourself. I don’t remember the exact key presses, but it’s on YouTube or this forum.

Probably. Most dealers will rip you off any way they can. If you don’t drain the oil coolers, it’s 8.5Q.
Just put back what you took out. Then check the oil level and add more if necessary. Unless you took out more than 8.5, in which case you had too much.

Keep in mind that the oil cooler holds just less than a quart of oil, that can't be removed by using any suction device.

Oil cooler holds 0.5 quarts, as per my last post.

I don't worry about - the car burns enough oil during the year that you are effectively replacing it with new oil. I easily put in 2 quarts a year during the year. Per the owners' manual, it can burn a lot more than that.

Mercedes HQ in Canada has a dealership in their lobby. The AMG techs suck the oil out there as well. They don't drain it from the bottom, and they don't drain the oil coolers.

A half quart of old oil mixed with 9 quarts of new is 100% totally fine. Zero need to drain the cooler manually, that’s just over the top OCD. I like all those plugs factory tight and intend to keep them that way.

Agreed! When the head office AMG certified tech doesn't drain from the bottom, that totally convinced me.

I drain almost 1L out of my cooler and the pan almost 8L. That's a lot of used dirty oil to mix with fresh new stuff. AMG certified techs are allowed to be lazy...

Maybe this is a reason why some owners are having bucket wear issues?

I totally agree, and maybe I have OCD. This is the way I've always done and will continue to do it.
I've never had any issues with bucket wear issues, as confirmed by the recent valve cover gasket replacement.
People are free to do what ever they choose to do, it's a free country.

I have the dealership do the oil changes every 10,000 miles to keep it dealer documented and serviced. In addition, I do the oil changes every 5,000 and send that sample out to Blackstone. Im using the pump and the method. Easy. I bought the car with 2700 miles on it so im keeping a fairly comprehensive record of the engines metallurgy.
I bought this vacuum pump and donated it to my local shop which is also where I bring my used oil to. They use that thing all the time and 1.5 years in, its still going strong. I highly recommend the pump. Im doing the Blackstone thing but really thats just gonna tell me if I need to trade the car in so I dont have to deal with the drama.
