Man.... this is ugly. How could he prefer those seats to the gorgeous factory amg leather seats.... ( factory in UE , don't know about US ).

But I suppose racing should be considered here.

I really like the passenger seat (Recaro Sport series)...they are an amazing combination of support and comfort. IIRC the driver's bucket weighs less than 20lbs.

bit waste of money i think. take out the spare wheels if you want to save these little bit of weight. and not to mention with the engine size of 6.2, these weight is nohting

Weight saving Recaros ARE very expensive (~$2.5k each)
But
I have to disagree with you.
Spare tire plus all the tools from the trunk will not compare (even close) to substituting our "beautiful" AMG seats, which are very heavy, with Recaro
On the other hand it depends on what type of seat you buy.
Recaro carries carbon/kevlar seats (profi spa) it weighs 9lbs (plus the frame with it probably another 5-6lbs), of coarse they don't have electro adjustment (actually the only thing you can adjust is how close you are to the steering wheel and maybe height and that is it, in most cases).
However they also carry electro-adjustment seats, with all the comfy options, they even supply a lot OEM seat for well known brands. Audi's S, RS, R seats are made by Recaro.

EDIT: I think Jcart is running some Recaros or Sparco seat on his BS

If you want to save weight when racing, just remove the pasenger seat. It amounts to the exact weight saving as getting 2 recaro seats.

The lateral support of the stock C63 seats is just amazing. I have an OMP grip racing seat and the C63 seats are very very close (and look awesome)

Also I agree with patboyy, saving 50 pounds on a 450 HP car is not like saving 50 pounds on a honda civic. The difference will be very minimal.

If you really want a big difference in performance, go with ultra light 18" wheels for improved acceleration and braking...

I'd think you would feel the 100+lbs weight loss in any care regardless of the HP.

What I was just saying is that if you want to save weight for free, 1 stock seat is a good idea.

2 seats at 15 lbs each is 30 lbs

1 seat at 50lbs

So you save 20lbs, out of a car that's close to 4000 pounds.

I don't think the difference would be noticeable at all, especially since the weight you save is at the center of the car (and low too).

just my 2¢

isn't it more...remove 2 50lbs seats for 100lbs
replace with 1 10lbs recaro for a net saving of 90 lbs...
All you really need is 1 recaro when tracking/racing. Back seats can also be removed. easy enough as it's just a couple bolts and the rear latch, but those aren't that heavy at all.

The problem with replacing passenger seats on a more permanent basis if you do a swap out is you're disabling the passenger side airbag since it's tied to the pressure sensor in your seat. I'm sure there's a way to hardwire this through the software, but just something to keep in mind. Also removing the seats will throw errors which will need to be cleared through the ODBC II port. Something I ran into when reupholstering my interior.

Yeah, IIRC, Jrcart saved nearly 130lbs +, not to mention the CLK BS doesn't have heated seats.

Well the comparison I had made in this case was just removing 1 seat instead of having to purchase 2 seats at 5000$ for a gain of about 20 pounds.

If you put in recaro seat and remove all the stock seats it makes more sense, however if you're going to have one seat in your car anyways, the comparison should be between using one stock seat and one recaro seat, not one recaro seat vs 2 stock seats. The gain might be 35 to 50 pounds. But in the center of the car like that, that might not make such a difference.

Another solution might be to refuse fat chicks in your car (rule that I strictly enforce).

Nothing wrong with racing seats in a mercedes...

This is my set up for track days. I'll be gettin another one for the passenger soon also. After I'm done at the track, I come home and put back the comfy AMG seats.

Like some have said, I would have saved some money and would have taken out the spare or something, but I don't have one.

How similar are the C63 seats compared to the BS? From the pics I have seen, they kind of look the same.
