C63 Seats, Back Pain

My dad recently took delivery of a 2010 C63 Estate in Red with PPP and slippy diff.

He is fantastically pleased with it for performance and handling.

However, to our surprise he can't seem to get comfortable in it, even on short journeys. He has a bit of a sore back at the moment, but nothing too drastic.

The Reacaro seats in his old V8 RS6 are still very comfortable for him.

He's not a big guy, approx 13st 5f 10 but finds that drivers seat gives him pain, mostly becuase of how aggresive the lateral support is, ie on the sides of his back.

Personally I think the seats are awesome, and I love them, but it's his car, and if he's not comfortable this could prove to be a real problem!

We can only hope that the seats become a bit more supple and he gets used to them. The last resort would be fitting recaro's at great expense.

He has tried all sorts of different positions/adjustments with no luck.

has anyone experienced a similar problem? do the seats get more supple as time goes on? What about fitting recaros?

I have 2 herniated lower discs and can only stand the car on drives less than 3 hours. Any longer and one of my sciatic nerves will flare up causing discomfort along one leg. But then again, for me, it could be the seating position and not the seat itself.

Yes, he has also adjusted the three side buttons, and has the width set at the widest setting.

I can see how the seats maybe uncomfortable since when I drove 4 hrs to Vegas, it was up to the point where I couldn't stand the last hour and started speeding up. My dad couldn't get comfortable in the car as well, but my car not his. I recommend if it's up to the point where he really can't handle it...ask him to go back to the rs6 and let you keep the c.

I can't agree with you guys - apart from every day usage, i drive the car 2 times a week from my house to berlin which is about a 3hour ride and dont feel a thing.

I must admit that after about a 5 hour trip my *** starts to hurt but thats normal after such a long time

The only thing i can say about the seats is that the leather is not very durable. After 60'ooo km my left side of the seat is worn out

I think the seats are great. you just have to find the right combination of tilt and side bolsters. I think the seat actually helps my lower back problem because it gives me support.

Side bolsters dont allow the shoulders to rest down comfortably. They jam up in your armpits.

Leather sucks and cracks fast. We have gone over this in many posts. Some say amazing expensive smooth and soft NAPA leather. I say make the leather thicker even if it looks a little cheaper.

The flat head rest (part that says AMG) with out any curvature hurts the neck as well.

Obviously a racing seat designed for total lock down of the driver. No lazy-boy action.

I couldn't agree with this more.

Im about to buy a C63 (waiting for MY11 announcement) and can't stand the ergonomics of the seat. Ive driven a C63 for a day and each time I got out of it I felt relief (not impressive). Im in the process of finding an Auto upholstery trimmer who can replace the standard firm foam with something more forgiving, this will in turn release pressure on my back whilst maintaining the hugging structure of the chair.

Im 98 kilo's, if I were 80 Im sure they'd be perfect.
