Hooning
I didn't know the meaning- this is from Wikipedia
Hoon is a derogatory term used in Australia and New Zealand to refer to a younger person who engages in loutish, anti-social behaviour. In particular, it is used to refer to one who drives in a manner which is anti-social by the standards of contemporary society, that is, fast, noisily or dangerously. While generally applied to automobiles and other road vehicles, anti-hooning legislation also targets hooning behavior wherever it occurs, including motor boats.

Yes very strict, under the new law if you get caught 3 or 4 times (not sure), the police have the right to crush their car.

Dude - it would be much more awesome if they could CRASH the car, instead of crushing it. I say they change the law to allow the police to CRASH it - like off a bridge or something. While it's on fire.
And "hooning" - WTF??? I hope he was at least doing some donuts or something. Just a burn out? *****, man, that would probably get a thumbs up from the po-po in The ATL.

To fill you international guys in, let me explain to you the laws here in Melbourne.
If you are caught doing ANYTHING stupid (burnout/donut/speeding 45km/h+ over the limit/getting sideways etc), it is classified as "improper use of a motor vehicle".
There is a three strike policy. On each offence, the police have the right to impound your car on the spot for up to 48h. It then costs you about $200 in towing fees and like $600 in impound fees to get the car out two days later.
On the first strike, you will go to court. They can't impound the car longer, but you could get up to like 1 year licence loss, or even worse (for example, you were caught doing donuts around a group of school children crossing the road.. lol)
On the 2nd strike, its 48h on the spot, then when you go to court they can not only sentence you a licence loss, but on top of that an impound UP TO 3 months long.
On the 3rd strike, you're out. 48h on the spot, and then at court they can confiscate your car and sell it off at the auctions.
Each strike lasts for 3 years. So just spread them out and you'll be right haha.
On the point of crushing, they want to bring that in instead of the confiscation and auction. They want to "show" people how bad it can feel.
Yep, it sucks.

Oh, on another note. MB brought like 30 C63's and E63's to the GP for people to come to an AMG drive day. They will then be using them at Philip Island in a few weeks also. That's probably why he was in a C63.

Wow, I guess all the hardcore criminals are in jail and all that's left is to look out for people doing burnouts! :-)
To be fair, he also had the hardest car to NOT spin tires in! I spin my tires everyday in normal driving. That is spin not smokey burnout. Have any of you ever looked in your rear view mirror when accelerating away hard? You can see two lines left by your tires!!

Definitely learned a new word. Great pub for the C63. Getting caught hooning seems to have had a negative impact on Lewis' qualifying---P 11. The Beast can be trouble, even for a World Champion.

Cars are very expensive (we're talking 100,000+ for a C63, and Maserati GranTurismo is close to 300K and on the lower end a base Camry is 30K new!).
Internet. It is NOT like the US where you pay a flat monthly rate and you can use an unlimited amount. You choose your plan based on how much internet you will use, and it is not cheap.
Its not like the police don't have anything else to do, there is plenty of crime, and their prison sentences are VERY lax compared to the US, with under 18s getting 12 yrs in jail for murder, battery and larceny. In California they would be locked up for at least 25.
Other than that, and speed cameras, Australia/Sydney is really nice place to visit with very friendly people, awesome beaches, and good nightlife.

Yeah, the car prices here are ridiculous. Even worse for me cause I work online, on a large USD income. By the time I convert it to AUD, my income virtually halves and it's not such an impressive number any more.
I mean, a new C63 is over $160k AUD... which equates to around US$150k. What about a high mileage '03 E55 from US$80-$90k. If I'm not mistaken these are going for under 30 in the US Makes me wanna move over there.
