Geo3, because you did not have accidents yet does not mean it will not occur, knock on wood
You have a single axel and tow with a short wheel base car
NOT a good Combo.
Beside towing a FF car with open trailer will have lots of commuter do stupid things to take a look of it

I used to tow my D962 with open trailer.

Once again why risk your life towing

if you can afford a C63, then you can afford at least a $3000 pick up to tow

Elo, before bashing people, you should learn how to read.
Here's an excerpt of my original post "stay within the specs of what you car can tow"
You probably don't explore the top speed of your 63 because you think it is unsafe as well.
If the engineers at Mercedes allow you to do it, then it is safe.

Emericr,
Bashing? Do you even know what that words mean?
We hare have discussion and each of us have different opinions .
If you think is so safe let's do a test
You tow a flatbed trailer with race car on it with C63 and I tow with a Pick up or Suv.
Then we go to an open area to test out.
We can also have members from the forum to witness who is right or wrong.
You want to kill yourself go ahead, but please don't drag others into it, could live with yourself if the guy dies towing because you said it was ok?????

I will let the engineers at Mercedes speak for themselves. I went to local dealer and they stated they had no problem with installing a tow kit on the car and as long as you stay within the wight limits, they are no issues.
Obviously driving the car with a trailer requires skills and is not for everyone, but one has to assume that the OP understands that fact. Now, I agree with you that the limit is not enough for a race car but that was not my point.

Hate to bring this up again, but just saw the new, future, VW Passat (test-mule), towing its data acquisition trailer. Double axle, and looks quite heavy to me. I believe that the Passat is similar in weight to C63.

Yes the trailer itself is heavy, now put a car on top of it and take some turns and hills with it. When the trailer pushes your car off the road in a turn then you'll know what ELO was talking about.
If you like your car then use it for what is intended to be used for.

Enough already. Tow if you want, or don't.

In my opinion, the C63 is probably not the best choice for towing, but if it is the only option and you stay within safety specs, I guess it'd be okay. I would think that renting a pick up truck for the occasional tow is a safer route.

people read too much in between the lines. the OP Simple question: can the C63 tow? the simple answer is yes and safely as long as you stay within the engineers guidelines. A race car + trailer can easily stay under 3,000 pds (1,000 pds trailer + 2,000 car) which is only 75% of maximum towing (1,800 kg) capacity per the OP statement.
No one ever claimed that a small SUV or truck is not a better solution but that does mean you cannot do it safely with a C63...

Wow, you really added a lot of value to this thread.

Kudos to emericr for his reasonable and rational response.
