Where can i purchase a spare ECU??

Where can i purchase a spare ECU??
I am taking delivery of my car on Wednesday and I wanted to look into buying another ecu to put a tune on it. I asked my sales person and he said that they wouldn't sell me another ecu. Anyone know of or have a dealership that will sell me one. I am located in southern Maryland. thanks in advance guys.

Something doesn't sound right. They should sell you the ECU. I have multiple ECU's and they know exactly why and didn't blink an eye selling them to me. I would talk to someone higher up and require they sell you a spare as part of the deal or don't buy the car. Just my 2cents worth. Good luck with your purchase. You'll love it!

spear ecu is around 1200, at least that what i payed for mine.
ps i might sell mine for the rite price, but its vin coded to my car and it has a tune that u have to take out. pm me if anyone wants it.

thanks for everyones help. i just called the dealer after mthis gave me the part number. they told me it was $1380 and came with the vin coded to my car. it would also be $175 to program it for my car.

Does the ecu record how many miles it has been in the car? I only ask because if I tune one ecu and leave the other stock, will the dealer be able to tell that I have switched my ecu back to the stock one if I need to go in for warranty repairs?

$1035 at getmercedesparts.com - does anyone know if I could buy there and bring it to my dealership to have them program it for me? Sounds completely doable in my mind, but who knows with some of this stuff (my dealership quoted me $500 to install the rear door lock pins - in reality 5 minutes of work).

You shouldn't be allowed to purchase that part online. The part comes vin coded from MB and it's against MBUSA's polices to order a ECU without the vehicle being present at the dealer. They could also decline to sell it to you based on what you are using it for and they are only suppose to replace them if there is an issue with the ECU. Be careful if you push the issue with the dealer as they might status 8 (void warranty) the car based on the fact that you are planning to modify the software in the car. Do not tell them you are going to put a custom tune in the car...

They are correct. a ME(ecu) is a trp(theft relevant part) so the vehicle must be present at the time of order. once a ME is personalized and firmly attatched to the car there's no way to change to another car (at least there is no backdoor im aware of.) thats why when we scn code it at the dealership it asks us literaly 3 times to verify we actually want to attatch it to the car. as far as mileage. there are many control units that keep track of mileage (etc,me,ic,and more). your mileage would be coded into the ME upon installation, so there will not be any mileage descrepancies. all of our control units that are beyond basic will not function without coding.

Bought it from getmercedesparts.com. The manager there said if my dealership wouldn't do it, they could (and I'm close enough to make it work).
