Great White C63 gives modded C5 S/C a wake up call

Well just a preface, I'm not an advocate of street racing, but sometimes given the right set of circumstances... well here is my story from this morning.

On the freeway on my way to the office, I spot this very nice and clean modded C5 Z06 up ahead. Traffic slows him down and I end up right behind him, I notice the personalized lic. plate. (for his safety I will not post EXACT), but plate refers to this car has a C6 Z06 427 LS7 motor transplant with a S/C, it is blatant, but as I said I won't post exact plate. We get off the freeway, and there is a 18 wheeler giving us both trouble, we go under the underpass and around the 18 wheeler, we both open up a bit and the echo in the underpass is deafening!! His head snapps back at my car (I'm sure he's saying WTF is up with this C63 and the noise coming out of it LOL). We both turn onto a street which is a looong straight with no traffic, he pulls up next to me, and stomps the gas on "the roll" and his car sounds crazy and takes off like a bat out of hell, I discount him and just mosey along. Next light we end up perfectly lined up, he glances over at me, I'm like...hmmm ok what's up is this guy is he going to try and race me?? Light turns green we roll out a bit testing each other I suppose, I hold steady (I was not looking to tangle with this guy, seriously) he punches it and starts laying rubber down, I quickly hit the "ESP Sport" button and punch it, he gets out 1/2 a car on me, but I'm going through the gears, hey wait, we're still neck and neck, I can't gain any ground on him, but he's not pulling away from me either, at about 120 or so, we both back off, go to cool down mode, next light he is turning right and me turning left, a quick roll down of the windows, and both a huge thumbs up to each other.!! What a race!! Thought I would share. GT PRO LT's at work baby!! LOL

nice run man, great race story. those headers sounds like they are making hp but hopefully they are not working at the another overprice metal level.

^^^ C6 drop-top is much different than a Z06...the verts are heavier, so I'd expect a stock C63 to easily hang with a stock C6 convertible...maybe even a hard top.

Also, if his top was down, that slows him up a bit too.

Hanging with a Z06 is a completely different level of hanging!

Good history. All I have to say is that my C6 Z06 trapped 122mph on its maiden trip to the local 3100ft elevated track while my C63 trapped 109mph. However C6 with LS2 typically trap around 105-106 at my local track.

We make reasonable cost products (NOT China cheap-O though, all our parts are made in the USA), with outstanding attention to detail. We are sensitive to costs, but certain things we don't compromise our quality for however.

Oh, this def. was a Z06 LS7 transplanted motor with a S/C stuffed into a C5 hardtop. Really a great race, wish I had video. AND decent guy, with the thumbs up at the end!

His set up must clearly not been tuned right because a Z06 motor with a supercharged will not be close to a tuned C63 or he did not have what his plate claimed. At the recent mile run (topgunrun.com), there were many Z06 and the ones supercharged or with NOS were trapping 190+. Other than Dad's C63 that trapped 180, the other 2 C63 (tuned) did 172 and 168. That is a serious difference.

+1

Assuming it was a C5 with a C6 Z06, S/C'd motor... with proper traction, that car should be a mid-high 10's @ 130+ MPH vehicle. C63 with tuning and exhaust is formidable, but a supercharged Z06 is a different league.

I'm not saying the race and results didn't happen, far from it; but unless you know the other driver and car, it's tough to say what it has with any conviction - the plate could mean lots of things (might even be a goal of what he wants it to be someday, but isn't there yet... who knows).

Anyway, good story; glad to hear he's a fellow enthusiast and willing to give props where they're due.

++++++111111 on what the last two people said. This also makes my comment above very accurate. The LS7 on a C5 alone should already leave the C63 in the dust, add a S/C and it shouldn't be even close.

Since I believe the history from GTPro, I am inclined to say that the C5 was braggin about something that he never had. Maybe the C5 has all the stickers, emblems and license plate to make the people think the car had a LS7 with S/C in it. This is the only logical line of thought that I have.

Hmm hate to crash the party but a supercharged LS7 is a sack of apples compared to an orange in this case.

This actually reminds me of a story that happened this week, a slower but WAAAYY more expensive and exotic car pulled up to me. I revved at him at a stop light. He floored it and I followed when he got in front of me. By 40 he let go, I get next to him, he has a little kid in the passenger seat with a huge smile. The dad asks me how much horses I am making, I lie "like 400", he smiles and says "mine is more like 500". I didn't want to be a dick and ruin the father-son moment so I just pulled ahead hoping he would willingly follow for a lesson, but they stayed back.

It was just something that happened that's all. I am FULLY aware of the LSx motors, and Corvette set ups, I have built quite a few Vettes's (you can see some of them on Youtube under briangtpro), regarding how his car was running etc., I cannot say, plus our pull was not very very long, but the one thing I can say, is that there are many various things that come to play in a situation like this, and I can only speculate, it was just some fun and I wanted to share, that's all.

Comparatively, yes, but we refuse to make parts in China and raking you over the coals pretending to be selling quality parts, if that's what you mean (yes it's happening). ALL parts will be proudly made in the USA, Europe (Germany, Italy and the such) or Japan ONLY with uncompromising quality, attention to detail, and priced right. Will we produce China made headers for $150.00 like the Honda guys? NO..Something else to consider as well, VOLUME... in a rare car such as an AMG, prices for parts will ALWAYS be higher than the high production vehicles such as Hondas, Nissans, etc. just due to sheer buying power alone, if a mfg. can sell 10,000 headers vs 50 headers, the production costs are going to be drastically different hence the end price variation to the consumer. Do I feel there has been some price gouging by some of the companies? Yes I do.. so hopefully we can help address some of those issues and bring products to market that bear a more realistic price vs what we've been seeing out there.
