Yeah it is much easier to swap with studs and lug nuts. However, if you do not, the easiest way I have found is to use a long screw driver and use it as a temporary bolt as a means to hold the wheel in place while you screw in the other bolts.

You should have an aluminum stud that you screw into a wheel bolt hole, in the trunk with the spare tire and tools (at least our R Class has one). It keeps the wheel in place while you start the other wheel bolts. Very simple to use and available from the dealer or aftermarket if there is not one in the car. I fought and swore changing wheels winter/summer or rotating until I discovered this handy little tool in the Styrofoam tool holder over the spare tire.

I was thinking about doing this. I found this site that sells racing studs and nuts for Porsche, VW and Audi. I think these will work for Mercedes as well as the threads are the same, and they have ball seat nuts. I'm not sure if we need the Porsche ball seats or the VW/Audi ones though.
