Steering vibration..

I just picked up an '09 model yesterday evening, loaded with everything (including the P30). It has 7,500 miles on it, and I bought it directly from Benz.

If I approach a traffic light going above 35 MPH, the steering wheel & car start vibrating in installments as soon as I brake. This also occurs if I'm driving a little faster and have to hit my brakes for whatever reason. Any clues as to what could be causing this? It's relatively new, and rotors should last at least 25k miles. Does this occur if the rotors warp due to heat?

I'd appreciate it if anyone that has experienced the same, or has any knowledge on this subject sheds some light. By the way, I made an appointment at Benz after the weekend... I'll have to raise hell if they expect this to come out of my pocket!

Bet you that was a "demo" car.....they beat the crap outta them...warped rotors for sure from a lot of high speed hard breaking

Take it back to the dealership and get them to replace the rotors

Thanks for the insight folks! Brakes are wear & tear, so I doubt they're covered by any warranty.. any estimates on how much I'm looking at? I'm guessing a full brake job would consist of replacing the rotors & pads... am I missing anything else?

Lastly, since I reported this problem to them the day after I purchased the vehicle.. would it be sensible to convince them to fix it without cost?

It a certified preowned... its in your best interest and absolute right to give that car back to them and DEMAND that they fix it for free. Get a nice loaner car too while you're at it.

Just picked up the car today, the rotors were indeed warped. The car isn't a CPO, because they said "it's too new to be certified." Since I had purchased it the day before though, they replaced the front rotors free of cost, and there isn't any vibration or "shimmy" while braking!

Thanks for the help =D

Too new to be CPO? Thats BS. If it was certified it wouldnt have the brake problem!

The two year warranty on brakes must only be in Canada, they don't offer it here in the states.

Lol, I asked the financial director, service technician and salesman all at different times and got a similar answer -- it's too new to be certified. I'm glad they replaced them for free.

That's crap... if its used and you got it from the dealer it needs to be a CPO. I would email some MB reps in your area. It cost more for the dealership to sell a CPO since they need to do a full inspection which they usually absorb or pass of to the end buyer. Its worth it to pay a small premium if you are keeping the car indefinitely. If you are getting rid of the car in 3-4 years time then forget about it. Regardless, think of it this way. The previous owner might as well drifted and ran a track event with your car and there is no way for you to know it. Buying a CPO will protect you from future problems that might arise from what the previous owner did (only if you keep the car for a very long time). These problems might not show up right now but sooner or later it will.

Don't feel neglected. I noticed you did, man.

Used to have this problem in my old audi. Maybe it was the way I drove in those days, but the thing would shake more than a Lada.
