Tire size 265 makes a difference

I thought that those of you who are not car racers or extreme drivers might be interested in my experience. I'm just a regular driver who loves to drive. I just replaced my rear tires. Since my front 18" OEM tires are still good and that I didn't dislike the PZeros at all (my previous cars were BMWs running on runflat Bridgestones), I decided to get a new set of 18" PZeros for my rear wheels but size 265 instead of 255. It is quite of a difference, actually much more than I expected.

From a look standpoint, the tires look a little "fat" and not as low profile as the previous ones, but nothing shocking. On the road, the stability of the car has improved significantly (quick lane chance, aggressive curves, cornering, ...). Before, when the car was in ESP-Sport mode, there was always a little slippage, which has completely disappeared now.

I know that for ultimate traction, there are other kinds of tires that may be better than the Pzeros. But for people like me who don't push the car to its limits, I find that the super hard side walls of the Pzeros combined with the larger width gets me all the thrill I can hope for.

Hope my experience can be useful to some of you.

Great info, thanks for sharing from a driving enthusiast perspective. I will look into it in a couple of months...

And you'll still only get ~ 5-7k mi. out of the rear 265 P-Zero's.

Durability was not a factor for me obviously. I drive my car 15,000km (10,000 miles) per year including winter with snow tires. But unless I compromised on traction/handling, other performance tires would not give me more mileage anyway.

Thanks for the info. My rear tires are over due for replacement and I have been debating doing just what you did and now you answered everything for me, so am ordering tires on the weekend. Good info

I did the same too, with Bridgestone RE-11 (size 265) at the back since last summer, and have the front at stock till now. The overall performance has improved quite a lot, especially when the rears are warm up

Me too, switched to 265 Sumitomos and love them. By the way, the 265s have almost the exact same overall diameter and revolutions per mile as the fronts, so they are actually a better fit than the 255s. That is the size (at the very minimum) that should have come on the car from the factory. No idea why the factory skimped on the tire size.

How's the wear on those tires so far, how many kilometres have you done on them?

I'm shopping for tires right now and would appreciate your feed back, since I am considering Vredestein UltraC Sessanta,Hankook Evo V12 or Falken Fk452 as other possibilities.

yes. 245 and 265. Will try 275 when the 265 wear out. the car feels more planted and solid, and of course more tire up front is better for the braking..

I have 245/275 Michelin PS AS+ on stock 18" rims

Will be mounting 245/275 Bridgestone RE11s on 19"s soon.

no more AMG
I ran the Nitto 555's and got 11k miles out of them before I upgraded to my 19's. I had 3 track days on them also and they still have about 10% left before hitting the tread bars. I figure I'll at least get an autocross drift fest out of them and give them a decent send off

You really should try at least the 265 in back. You'll have a little more tire to grip, slightly better stance.

+1. THe 265's just look right, and with a change to stickier rubber the extra grip will amaze you!

They fit fine. Although, I think because the stock 18" rims were not that wide I did notice more tread wear in the center of the tire. I currently have 20" rims stock springs and my sizes are 245/25/20 Front; 275/20/20 Rear. I think those are the tire sizes, if anything the the side walls are different by probably -5.

I'm in Toronto, Canada. Not sure it would be a good bargain for you to drive all the way up Plus it's certainly cheaper in the US! But if you really are close to Toronto, just PM me and I'll let you know.
