Sold the C63 and Have Some Leftovers for Sale

I recently disposed of my C63 and was left with some small parts and maintenance items. So I posted them in the links that follow to try and sell those as well.

Downgraded for a couple of reasons. First, my wife and I are building a house and I decided to pull the equity out of my car and invest that money in the house. Second, I was not convinced of the reliability of this particular C63 as it had been in the shop on a number of occasions. My initial intent was to keep the car long-term. But every few months something else would go wrong - many were smaller issues that did not affect the safety or operation of the car but taking the time off of work to deal with them was getting to be too much. The last straw was the delaminating carbon fiber on the center console around the climate controls. I mean $2,500 for carbon fiber that starts peeling in less than two years? And I was meticulous about the car, not as if I abused it or left it in bad condition. The last reason was the high-maintenance costs and the abuse the car was taking on a daily commute (paint chips all over the front, broken lower grille, chips out of the windshield, etc). Again, taking time off to go to the shop for tire changes every five months was adding up not to mention the expense.

So I got an '06 M3 to take the daily abuse (with a very favorable interest rate). It's fun to drive, much cheaper to maintain, and there are so many options for mods, it's great. Down the road I hope to get a nice toy but still keep the M3 as the beater.

Do you think the e46 M3 is any better in terms of reliability? Want reliability get a accord or civic.

I had a 06 M3 and had absolutely zero problems with it from the first day to the last.
Also note that he is talking about his car in particular, not C63 in general.

you must be pretty unlucky to have a C63 with lots of little problems most C63 outa there including mine are very reliable.

Anyways E46 M3 is a very reliable car and is nice to own on a long term basis. Just make sure you get a manual one Enjoy ur new car

Never had a SINGLE issue with my '06 M3. And it was an SMG to boot. GREAT car.

I had an '02 E46 M3...one of the cars I miss.

How much of a beating did you take on the trade-in?

There seem to be many very reliable C63's out there, a few complete lemons, and some in between like mine. It was not a lemon but just enough issues to become a nuisance.

The E46 M3 is a lot of fun but very different than the C63 as many of you know. I'd say the C63 is a raging bull on steroids while the M3 is more like a mountain lion - not the fastest but agile enough to be exciting while feeling lighter on its feet than the C63.

As for a beating on the trade, don't even ask. I bought the C63 when discounts were few and far between but my time is more important to me than the money I lost so for me, trading was the right choice.

Thanks for all the good wishes.

Same here. I wanted a specific color and I think there were only 1-2 in the country, so they had to ship mine in from NJ. Plus, I asked for a pretty good amount on my 911 trade-in, so I didn't come out of it under water. I should be neutral on my C63 around the end of the year, but I'm not sure I can wait - the kids are getting bigger and my 3.5 year old could use some more leg room.

I recall seeing pictures of your car on here a while back. That color is amazing and absolutely unique in a land predominated by black, silver, and white C63's. And sure there's some pain in getting rid of the car and taking a monetary hit but family needs are very important (IMO). My hit was harder than most as the left side of the car had been repainted because of road debris that hit the rear driver's side door; left a small gash and dent but after a 7 week ordeal with the dealer, I ended up with an entirely repainted side. I think that reduced the value anywhere between $1-2K.

I've had 3 black cars, but no white and only one silver (my first 911). I like bright and/or rare colors. I'm keeping an eye on deals for a new Q5 and will probably pull the trigger when the time is right.
