Question I get a surging or hesitation affect

I just had my ecu upgraded to Kleemann stage 1, removed the charcol filters and installed K&N filters.. I notice now when driving and slowly step on the gas I get a surging or hesitation affect almost like a jerky motion.

Any ideas?

maf sensor?? maybe some oil from the k&n, or if it's convenient, just get it reflashed.

when I added back the charcoal filters I noticed it was still there but not so pronounced like you really had to feel for it.. I was going to buy a can of CRC MAF cleaner to clean the inside of MAF.. and remove the charcoal filters again and see whats up...

charcoal filters

Can someone advise where the "charcoal filters" are and what they do?

I presume they are some sort of secondary air filter.

I'm still trying to find a C63 factory service manual on line.

Thanks,

Jim

the charcoal filters are right next to the paper filters, forget whether that's on top/underneath. all they do is filter emissions from escaping out the intake side after you turn the car off. i think only the U.S. has them. I took mine out long ago, fairly easy to do, just be careful not to break the plastic clips when you're removing that cover, then it's five screws per side(from memory), then lift and remove.

Thanks for the info.

Any change in intake noise when they are removed?

I presume there is a power increase from the reduced restriction?

There is some power increase, but it has been very inconsistent on different vehicles: some have shown as much as +18 rwhp gain while others have shown 0 rwhp gain. The majority seem to agree on 5 to 7 rwhp gain on average.

I don't remember about the noise, but would make sense if it was a bit louder due to more air flowing. Since you have the K1, taking the filters out should give you a few more hp, but not much.

I removed the charcoals once. But the CEL came on. So I put them back.

update..

so I removed the covers, disconnected the MAF and sprayed some CRC MAF cleaner into the MAF and removed the charcoal again and reinstalled everything..Looks like the issue is gone at least for now.. (fingers crossed)
