Got Brake Dust?

My Arctic White 63 seems to accumulate brake dust on the rear bumper and around the license plate pretty quickly. Today, I washed the car and took it for a spin around the block to clear some of the water and when I returned there already was black particulate building up. Pretty typical?

My '08 C350 had an issue with massive brake dust from the rear brakes and MB actually had a bulletin on the issue and replaced the pads with a new type that significantly diminished the problem. Anything like that for the C63?

That's not brake dust, thats just dust and dirt from the surrounding air that cars encounter every day.

they are defintly coming out from our car. i have the same situation, and only for the rear bumper. i guess everyone does, but just matter of the body color whether it is obvious or not.

but i m not sure thats brake dust, my guess was rear tyres or from exhuast.....

these guys are correct. dirt and exhaust. i use a californa duster if its very light. but i usually wash my car after every drive or every other. so i dont get it alot. clay bar once a year or so to take any imbedded dirt off. but the duster works great... quick detailer is another option as well.

It's the rear deck lid spoiler that's causing all the air turbulence around the rear bumper when the car's in forward motion, thereby depositing large amounts of airborne dust particles on the top of the bumper.

Watch this video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jd71qpfUfEg). At 0:50, the wind-tunnel test assistant demonstrates what's happening around the rear bumper as the air flows over the trunk lid. The C63 has a more pronounced spoiler, which would only create more turbulence around that part of the car.

You will note that after every run, your exhaust tips have a buildup. Therefore you will always find a degree of "dirt" on the bumber and fenders, no matter how often you clean the car.

that's the price you pay for having this car . every performance built car has something unique " pain in the *** " about it . i will take a little dust over the vehicle riding like some super cars ( rough as hell ) .

I washed my car twice and dried it by driving and noticed a lot of dust in the water drops as they dried. Do not dry your car by driving it and the problem will not be so bad as there will be no water for the dust to stick to. It is obvious that there is a lot of turbulence behind the car attracting air born particles to that area and depositing them on the car. As people have mentioned it is a problem to get used to dealing with.
