How to build a widebody C63
Hey guys,
A lot of you have been asking about the widebody, both in the forums and via PM, and I figure I've kept you all waiting long enough.
The project began while I was working at evosport. I'd been lamenting the limits of rear wheel/tire width after installing my HREs and I jokingly suggested giving me a week in the fab shop to make it happen. FYI, I don't do bodywork. A couple of days later Bob approached me about sending it out to the shop that did his CLK, AutoWerks in El Monte. We talked to them about prices and found a sweet spot that I felt comfortable with. I photoshopped up a few images of how I wanted it to look, dropped it off, and a couple of months later...Boom! Widebody. Peter at AutoWerks was really willing to accommodate my requests and they definitely nailed the look I was going for. The fenders were cut out and the extensions and door additions are done in steel (With very little patching. Weak magnets stick well anywhere on the mods). The sills and rear bumper were cut and remolded with fiberglass. It's around 1.75" wider on each side. I drove it around with the rear flares in raw primer for a few more months while I gathered up the cash for the repaint. It was kind of a funny sight; this brand new C63 sporting $7k wheels and a modified CLK BS splitter with the straight ghetto primer rear. So raw. Anyway, I got the repaint done by Speedway Autobody in Costa Mesa. While it was there, they also patched in the front bumper reflector holes and did the taillight and side view mirror tints. Very nice all around. Vorsteiner used my car for mocking up the C63 kit and was nice enough to kick down a rear lip and diffuser for my trouble, and I've recently gotten together with ADV.1 for those badass five spoke wheels. 11" wide rear monoblocks FTW.
So that's the story. I'm sure I was a real pain in the *** at times when the car was being built, but I'm happy to have worked with all the companies I did. They're all great people with great products. In fact, there's a second evosport car at Autowerks now getting the rear end done like mine. Lucky *******.
Here's somepics of the mods from start to finish:
Here's a couple of comparison shots taken after the first fender was done with the other side still stock (The wheels are 10" wide HRE Comp97s on 35mm spacers):
So yeah, it's like that...
I'm really grateful for all the positive feedback and support I've gotten from the forum and here's a list of numbers for the companies involved, to whom I'm also grateful:
evosport - 714 901 3100
AutoWerks Body and Paint - 626 442 6558
Speedway Autobody - 714 531 5963
Vorsteiner - 714 974 4300
ADV.1 Wheels - 305 238 0058
HRE Wheels - 760 598 1960
Regarding pricing, you'll have to talk to evosport or Autowerks. It wasn't cheap, but it was absolutely worth it.
And lastly, a picture from a recent road trip, just to mess with your heads a little:
Thanks,
Josh

Very interesting...thanks for the info. The end result is a fantastic look and that desert picture is my favourite! Your C63 is my favourite of all the ones I've seen.
Just a shame the UK is on the wrong side of the world to have this done

The pictures simply do not do justice to the overall visual effect of the car in person. The flares look so right for the car it's hard to imagine that it can be made to look any better than it does now.

Wow, mad props for going all out!! The car is so agressive now! Have you tried putting deep dish wheels in the back? ... it would make your widebody stand out more I think.

I think I read it in some other post - 315/25/19 or 315/30/19.
BTW As I've said a couple of times before - it looks amazing. Congrats
Envy is a not a pleasant feeling...
Thanks for the thread Josh.

Guys, pictures really doesn't do this car justice. After seeing it in-person for the first time, I was truly awed on how clean this look. Doesn't look aftermarket and if AMG ever makes a w204 BS, this is it.

I really, really, really want a wallpaper of the last desert pic! You have really the coolest C63 now! Maybe a RevoZport DTM frontbumper? Thanks for sharing!
