Everyday car?

I am sure this has been asked before, but for those who have the car, is it REALLY practical for everyday usage?

I'll be placing the deposit next week, but slightly worried that I'd have to keep a second car in the garage especially that it's a RWD when it snows a lot in Montreal.

Even though I've only owned it for about a year and a half, and only gone through winter once with it.. I think I can relate and say that it was a breeze. Although, also being in Canada, this may not have been the case a few years ago. It's safe to say that our snowfall's are easily not even half as bad as they used to be. We're lucky to see even 5cm of snow now..

But really, theres only one thing you need to know... and that's to buy a good set of winter tires. With all the electronic assistants, cars basically drive themselves. You might experience some spinning with all the torque just as I had, but you'll do just fine.

I live in Toronto so we got lots of snow. I think it should be fine with winter tires as long as you drive safe and slow. The only time you should keep this car in the garage is when it's pouring snow and the road is not cleared.

Do you live within the city boundary or outskirt? I wouldn't be comfortable having C63 as the only car if I have to drive it on country road in winter.

I live almost downtown, so the roads are always open so there's no worry about closed roads.

Would you mind if I PM you because this car is my first to be owned in Canada and I have no clue which company do I contact for my insurance. So if you can help and recommend a company, I'd appreciate that.

Thanks!

I live in the DC Metro, horrible traffic, long commutes... and its my daily driver... had the car for about 3 months now, put on 4k miles.

I find myself taking side streets through neighbourhoods, which while longer in distance, much less traffic to deal with, and some of it is a pleasant country road like drive.

I have not driven it in winter yet.. so that aspect remains to be seen..

It's probably cheaper to buy a winter beater... you would save on insurance & costly repairs done by salty roads... remember our cars are filled with sensors everywhere... so it's not a good mix in the long term.

My C63 is not my daily driver, only my week-end car... I'm glad I have another car to drive ot work 'cuz the Benz is brutal on gas. Be ready to see your gas station often if you daily drive this car... hehehe!

Well, I once saw a somewhat "senior" man driving the car and I briefly asked him how does it work in winter, the guy almost shouted saying "I don't use this in winter, I have another car" !

I have been driving my C63 for almost a month now, as a daily driver. I can say that the car is quite practical. My biggest concern is horrible gas mileage (especially with the traffic here in Moscow). Other than that: the seat is quite difficult to get into and the suspension is a bit too stiff for bumpy roads, but this takes getting used to.

Will try to drive it in Russian winter and see how it goes

I do not have issues with the ride or the seats, I'm rather skinny at 6 feet tall, 175 pounds. My wife who is 6'1 and is built like a runner (well, thats because she is one), does not like the seats at all, the side bolsters really do not adjust much for wider people, and is very uncomfortable for her.

I kind of like the rough drive, you can feel the road, but it can get bumpy, especially on DC roads.

I already have a Toyota Matrix, so I may consider keeping it instead... But I wouldn't really want to do that.

Even with the horrible gas mileage of the 63, it will probably be more expensive for you to keep the Matrix and pay insurance, registration, depreciation and maintenance on it than it will to just drive the MB. And, when would you really want to drive the Toyota instead of the MB? Ever?

I live in So Cal where the weather is almost always good and the roads are in decent shape so maybe I'm not the right guy to chime in, but my 63 is the daily driver and I love it. Too many trips to the gas station, sure, but man is it driving enjoyment. And, the looks on the faces of people near the car when it fires up are worth the price of admission to me. The word "beast" is uttered almost daily by folks who know what it is. I get some satisfaction from driving a car that people view that way and the work it takes to drive this car is rewarded over and over. So I say F it. Get your C63 and drive the **** out of it and love every minute.

Yes
The only downside is the mileage. And the somewhat stiff ride.

EASY tradeoffs for the excitement you get every time you jump in. Absolutely a DD, in fact in my eyes, the perfect DD. Power, comfort, technology, room for 4+...it's perfect. I'm about to tick 11k in my '09 and I still feel like Im at 1k, looking for any excuse to drive it.

Either the suspension softens up with miles on it or you get used to it. Either way it doesn't feel as harsh as when you first get the car. I'm talking non-PP here.

It hasn't been like that for a long time. The only time where it barely snowed was last year. The year before it was freezing cold and snow wouldn't stop pouring on us!
