First Service

Saturday had first service at local MB dealer. 1545 miles.
Oil & filter change and differential oil change.
Service advisor pointed out did not need oil change but I wanted it anyway.
Has not burned one drop since new. Took a while as draining oil cooler oil not a quick thing. Rep says they never change oil in AMG by siphoning from dip stick.
All in all for $375.00 not bad.

That doesn't sound right. Did he give you a reason for this?

Mine didn't either at that point, and I thought I was clear. But you'll get the message to check oil at next refueling soon enough...

Just make sure you find out exactly what oil weight and formulation they used so you can top it off yourself and not have to run to the dealer. It's easy to do, but it was a pain in the butt to find out right when it needed topping off.

Norm for rear diff, if you have it. Not at all norm for engine oil. They actually fought me on this the first time I went in. Almost had to argue with them to get them to do it.

I have already bought Mobil 1 from MB, though never had to use it

My Mobil 1 was really not handling track days well. The engine was taking a lot of oil. Switched to Redline Oil and the oil level has not moved at all since. Much better than the stock oil!

Redline is not on the MB Approved Oil List 229.5. I am sure it is not really a big deal and good oil but you might be leaving yourself open for argument if you have an engine failure. Silly I know, but all the same something to be aware of.

Wow, 3 services in 3 years... this car will be cheaper to service than the G35 I had (recommended service every 6000km). Who would have though?

Yes but it will be

1st service: Service 1/A 15000 Km or 1 year
2nd service: Service 2/B at 30000 total Km or end of 2nd year
and then,
3rd service: Service 1/A at 45000 total Km or end of 3rd year.

There are some other service items that are due at different times as well, such as brake fluid change.

the differential oil change is only if you have lsd? does the car let you know when it's time to get it changed? or are the intervals the same as a car without lsd and you just need to know to take it in?

NO, the "car" does not monitor differential fluid life.

Get the rear differential oil changed every 30K or so miles and you'll be fine.
