Manual Mode
I know most of you guys drive in M mode most of the time - honestly I just started doing it because I think the delay in shifting (compared to SMGII) kinda sucks. recently Ive used it more and more and am getting used to it. The acceleration in delaying shifts is awesome -
Question though...when you guys are coming to a stop do u let the tranny downshift on its own or do you do it yourself. Like pulling to a stop sign and red light - i almost prefer to let the tranny downshift for me.

His mama. Traded y0 mama in because she was squeaking.
I generally downshift myself, but that's only because of the growl the engine makes as I'm downshifting. Then again, I don't have any of those silly catalytic converters to muffle the sound. :/

also - correct me if im wrong
when passing on the highway (or anywhere) pull downshift paddle and hold to downshift to the optimal gear for passing -
when I do this, it goes from 7th to 6th then to the optimal gear. Shouldnt the tranny know not to downshift one time if youre holding the paddle, and automatically go to the best gear?

My car becomes jerky when I floor it in manual mode, it feels like it has hit the limiter and the computer cuts the fuel supply. However, when I look at the gauge, the car is not even closer to 7000 rpm when it acts up. What is going on?

If your in C mode and you brake is it normal for your rpm to blip up while your slowing down or braking or is there a way to turn that off? Just got my car and haven't messed with the settings yet since im in the break in period.

I hardly drive on M mode, it is a very ****ty system, slugish and not precised plus it doesn't have a default/fail safe for when you red line to shift to the next gear up.
Again, one big dissapointment for me.

other than the delay, the tranny is getting quite good reviews. not sure what you guys are expecting. the SMG and the SMG II got horrid reviews, and was as jumpy as hell. try putting an SMG in auto mode, it's horrible.

So I do a lot of track driving and I am curious when downshifting in manual mode does the C63 Rev Match? Meaning you get a blip of RPM's to compensate for the lower gear. The SMG II on the M5 does for sure, the 2009 E63 I drove does not.

The 2012 MCT transmission does rev match for sure and is reported to shift much quicker than older versions. I'm not sure whether pre-2012 cars do this or not.

the c63 would be a way better car with SMG transmiision than with the 2009 vintage slush box, love the c63 but the old tranny is a major disappointment. drove M3 with SMG II for 5 years, 95% in S6/7 with auto for the odd long bus trip.

This is my only reservation to the C63.. I really love the V8, Merc styling etc. So torn.

I have a 2012, and on M mode, it shifts very quick. I also have a DCT on my E92 M, and the new Merc Tranny shifts almost as quick. If that is your only reservation, just go test drive the new 2012, and your worries will be put to rest.

Thank you for posting... I also have an M3 with DCT and this worried me. Glad to hear this.

That said, I find the shifts to feel faster and more precise in Sport transmission mode. I know that is not the way MB advertises things, but that's just how it seems. Manual shifts, when not at redline, are slow.

If you time your shifts correctly, the jerk isn't that bad. The lower the rpm, the less jerky, but if you ever let off the throttle you will definitely jerk, I know, run-on sentence is run-on. The best sound ever is sometimes you can hear some nice gurgling from 4th to 3rd, when you let the tranny shift for you as you come to stop, if you're braking hard, sonic booooom!
