2009 C63 P30
Broken @ 9500 miles
I am looking at a 2009 C63 w/ P30 package and only 9500 miles. Recently went on a test drive and noticed some odd noises maybe some or you all are familiar with.
#1. The care has a whine almost like a faint power steering pump noise. Its noisy when you first start the car since it revs slightly at startup.
#2. Ticking sound from a small module with what looks like a small windows on top on the right front side of the engine. When I put my had on the module i can feel it every time it clicks.
There are a couple other noises it starts to make once it warms up.
What do you think they could be.....
Im familiar with new DI engines and their odd noises but dont think this car is equipped with it.

Secondary air
injection pump comes on at start up.
Purge valve ticks at start up.
9500 miles they bit the steep deprecation, you be sure you don't over pay and get it properly inspected by a professional.
BEFORE YOU BUY IT
Enjoy

2009 C63 P30
Funny what it takes to get people's attention. No whining here. Car is at a mercedes dealership. It is fully loaded with the P30 package as well. The original sticker for the car was $72K. They are asking $65K for the car. What should I offer them?

You are a whinny little ***** arn't you. If you said test drive this means that your either havn't bought this car yet or going to buy it second hand. So i suggest you do the normal and take it in to another dealer for a check up. You know what you should have done when buying a second hand car in the first place. Because this car does makes noise. But if you are the type to keep on *****ing than please do it to an SA.

Apparently someone deleted a post as the conversation is missing something based on your quote.. and you did not come across as whining...
That said, I'm going with way too expensive. I picked mine up, in the DC Metro area (not exactly known for cheap cars) for 50k, CPO'd with 14k on the clock. Yes, thats 5k more, but I don't think that 5K should amount to $15k worth of depreciation. Granted, I do not have the P30 package.. but again, I still don't think its worth the extra 15k..

Price is pretty high at $65K. About noise, you need to listen to other C63 and compare it. (I guess you do not want to spend on inspection unless everything is ready to go.) If sound is the same, go futher and get it inspection.

I dont own a C63, but have heard them, I never noticed them to be excessively loud? maybe I wasnt paying attention and too distracted by the power of that thing.
I would ask about the noise and see what dealer says? if they say its normal ask to see another c63 so you can compare. thats if you dont want to bother with inspection, I think most guys on here will tell you to invest the 100 bucks in getting made sure everything is sound. Id say its worth it especially if you are ready to drop 60k into a car

Exactly my thoughts on both accounts!! Take the emotions out and it is a mid 50's car as equipped...unless you MUST have it, then it's up to you. Remember the real value when you go to sell. Might have to eat a little, but could be worth it.....

OK. VERY IMPORTANT news regarding ticking/clicking engine noise on C63’s. I just dropped off my car at the dealer. They said they will get back to me tomorrow with the results of the inspection, however, I was given preliminary assumptions that I would love to share! As posted by many and reflected in numerous YouTube videos, the loud ticking/clicking sound is NOT NORMAL, especially if the frequency of the sound increases in relation to the accelerator, i.e. the more you press the gas pedal, the faster is the noise. If the noise is somewhat loud and annoying but the frequency DOES NOT increase by applying the accelerator, than in most cases it is the purge valve issue and is very easily fixed by a $70 part replacement. If the noise is high pitch, very noticeable and the frequency DOES increase when pushing the accelerator, then most likely it is the LIFTERS! Now, the lifters themselves might be the issue, or it could be as bad as an OIL PUMP that must be replaced. Hopefully, your cars are still under warranty, since that repair is very costly. My car makes noise only when it warms up, as opposed to some of you that have that problem only at the start-up, when the car is cold or has been sitting in a garage for a while. The assumption that during start-up the lifters are not yet filled with oil and that’s why they make noise does not work. In my case, the issue is that not enough pressure is created to adequately distribute oil from the oil pump into the lifters, which can cause permanent engine damage!!! Please take you cars to the dealer and have them look at the lifters if you are experiencing similar symptoms. I will keep you guys updated, as I hear more from the dealer tomorrow. Best of luck!

I just bought a 2009 w/p30 22,000 miles for $46,000 from the local MB dealer. It's a CPO with the 12m/100,000 miles addition to the warranty and 1.9% financing! Sticker was $66,700

Well, first of all, Mort, thanks for being rude! Second of all, this specific thread was started regarding the ticking noise from C63 engine and was originally initiated to resolve that issue, not to talk about car prices. Thus, I am replying to AMGP30's cry for help. After checking my car, the dealer said it was the "CAMSHAFT ADJUSTERS" that were making the noise, not the lifters, and definitely not the purge valve, so they ordered the replacement parts. If your engine sounds like mine, just go get it checked. That's all I said. I am just trying to help people. The forums are intended for people to get help and express their opinions, not to overanalyze comments from other members and to tell people to shut up. Last time I check this was a free country, buddy! And yes, I was trying to look up every single post related to the ticking noise, because I really did need help! Have a great day!
