Well, nothing exciting to report. It seems as though we have achieved the limits of the stock tranny. The juice works but the tranny will not shift in auto sport mode. We even backed out the nitrous to end at 6900 and it still would not shift. However, it works fine in manual mode. However, I suck at driving in manual mode.

We only got four runs in and I can't drive in manual. I made one pass that was fairly clean and Ben got one run that was fairly clean. Here's the real kicker. My pass was 11.533 @ 128.11mpg and Ben's run was 11.533 @ 128.64mph. Yes, I said it. Both runs were EXACTLY the same times.

Mine - 60' was 1.838
1/8 mile - 7.636 @ 98.15mph

Ben's - 60' was 1.862
1/8 mile - 7.658 @ 98.88mph

Strangely similar.

The fourth and final pass we brought the nitrous in in first gear. That was a kick in the pants and it launched like a rocket with NO traction issues. However, it banged the limiter in every gear.

Its late and we'll get it ironed out.
We did have an issue with the nitrous I'll ask the nitrous guru's to answer. Every time we purged the nitrous we got a lot of air. Even back to back purges gave us a good bit of air. During all the runs it seemed like the nitrous was coming in and out but we can't prove that other than the seat of the pants feel. Suggestions on what the problem could have been?? Both bottles were freshly filled and had 1000psi on them at all times.

Congrats on getting out there and trying the new setup.

That's impressive that you were able to hit the bottles in 1st gear and still hook up. It must have really pulled you back in your seat.

So, you believe you weren't making the power out on the track tonight that you were making on the dyno with this setup?

How much is your MPH off from where you were hoping it would be? Or are you satisfied with the trap speed?

At least you will only see better times from here on.

That's interesting and kind of scary that the trans is reacting to the extra power. Are you going to ramp down the NO2 so that the trans will start shifting in Sport again?

I guess if you want to shift in Sport mode you have to strike a balance between making as much power as you can and staying below the torque-limits of the TCM/ECM.

Otherwise, you could just practice in Manual, but it's never going to be as consistent and a accurate as automatic.

That sucks Keith. What orientation are your bottles sitting? There is a tube that goes down into a corner of the bottom of the bottle and if the bottle isnt oriented properly you can get air. Make sure all the connections are tight too. Are both bottles run to a y? I would recommend using 1 bottle at a time to avoid any pressure differences between the bottles. Hope you get it sorted out soon. Let me know if I can help!

Well I do have one good piece of data. Ran a 7.29 60-130mph this morning on the way to the office. Also, the tranny shifted by itself in Auto Sport mode with traction control off. Making progress. Finally, something good to take note of. LOL

Great news! Wow that 60-130 time has to be some kind of benz record! Going back to the track tonight? Haha. I want to see a low ten or high 9 pass! Just the time you cut in the 60-130 is over a second!

Sorry but we will not be at the MIR track rental. Wifes birthday weekend, too early in the season, and too close to the mile run which is Oct. 10th. We are focusing on the mile run right now. Thankfully the gear shifts are not as important in the mile run but we'll get it figured out.

Thanks for the kind words guys. We are really having fun and hopefully have good information for those that want to do it themselves later. This IS a BLAST!!

Just did some calculations. The 11.24 run (N/A) had a 3.38 0-60mph on the v-box. Then add the 7.29 which gets us to 130mph should equate to a 10.67 quarter mile minimum. Thats IF we can't improve on the 0-60 time which hopefully we can. There is HOPE!!

Hi Keith,

I would have thought that with your son working for Andy at MHP as a forum salesperson that it would have ensured you get special treatment from Andy.

But to discuss the issue of automatic transmission related tuning, I suggest we move the discussion into it's own new thread.

Wayne,
I'm not sure what you are trying to start but leave my thread alone. My son has been helping Andy with Marketing because he's good at it. He is not a paid employee. Yes, we work closely putting this car together buts its setting records. We run across problems that no one else knows about because we are going places no one else has been. We will get the tranny problem solved.

Lets not let this thread digress so move on. We are having fun!!

Sorry but that was a low blow..... Keith has always been helpful to everyone on the forum and his car has been instrumental in the progress and development of more products for the 63 engines (not just the C63). That was not called for

Actually, Acicchelli has the following 60-130mph MB runs:

RENNtech SLR: 6.65s
Stock SLR: 7.24s

Amazing times! It just goes to show how the SLR is built for high speed roll-ons. Even his SL65 with all the RENNtech mods ran a 7.48s...which isn't exactly slow...but can't compete with the mighty SLR.
