Get the 2011 C63 or wait for the new engine?
Hello guys-
A little background, I had a 2009 C350 that I loved, but it was not enough power, so I sold it and then went to a 2009 335i which I have and has tons of torque. So I am at a place where I am looking into a M3 or the C63, and I am really leaning towards the C63....it is a beast as we all know.
So I was talking with my dealer this past weekend, and he actually told me to wait because AMG is coming out with a new engine, which will be a twin-turbo V8. I was told it will be coming out in the S-class first by Dec 2010/Jan 2011, so my question is how long till this will be transported into the C-Class? I am also more partial to a coupe, and I am a HUGE fan of the CLK 63 BS, so any world of a new C-Class coupe? With a tune an pushing almost 450RWHP, the C63 is not a beast, it is a monster.
What are your guys thoughts? Wait for the new AMG engine or pick up a 2011 C63?
Thanks

There will always be something better or an upcoming upgrade, so it's of course up to you. I think most ppl here will say that the new tt 5.5L V8 engine won't come into the C63 at least until MY 2012 or 2013 (if MB decides that new engine should be dropped into the C63 AMG). In the meantime, you could have a wonderfully pleasing and fast C63 AMG (with the n/A 6.2L V8), and of course with a few little mods, you can reach upwards of 520+HP every easily!

Cars are like the electronics world.. if you keep waiting on the next best thing or upgrade.. you will be waiting forever. Find something that exists now that tickles your fancy, and pull the trigger. Because by the time the 5.5TT comes out for the C if at all.. they will probably have something new in the works that you will want to wait for.. etc etc..

Just jump in and upgrade as you go. I dont think you will see the 55TT anytime soon in the C63.
They made the mistake of thinking their ECU couldn't be cracked and detuning the 6.2l for the C63. If its a different engine you will have no choice but to buy the more expensive car for the bigger power.

There is a C63 coupe in the works. I saw some photos of it in a magazine. Looks pretty cool. Should be fast as heck.
My opinion is that the 5.5 TT will take a few years to find itself in the C63 -- as others have said, "if the C63 is still around." I sure hope it is.
You will not regret purchasing a C63. It may not be the most luxurious sedan, but it has a ton of attitude and potential to run mid to low 11's with headers and a tune.

You should keep in mind that the 5.5 TT is a new engine that will have quite a few kinks that needs to be worked out. It's always wise not to jump on the bandwagon for the latest and greatest, unless you don't mind paying out of your *** for it. You should buy what you want that fits your needs and wants at the moment and stop looking towards the future for the "what if's". It's like a dog chasing it's own tail. There will never be an end to it.

But, a 5.5 TT in a C63 would be, shall we say, heavan?

Are you leasing or buying?
If your leasing, I'd say lease it 3 yrs. then get the new AMG engine.
If your your buying, I'd sat a wise decision is to just wait for the new AMG engine. I'll be worth the wait.
It will be a long wait but we might see SL, ML, & SLK 63 AMG and their new engine possible next year (MY 2012) or MY 2013. Then what next? Possibly C 63 AMG?

I came across something on a website, can't remember, insideline or lane or something like that. They did not mention the 5.5 TT anytime soon. 2013 would be earliest, if they decide to put it in the C63. The wait will be long enough if you order yours new. I ordered mine in beginning of September, and they estimate delivery date in late December, early January. Already waiting a month, and it is killing me. But when it's all over, it'll all be worth it. I actually thing the N/A engine would be more aggressive than a quiet sleeper TT, unless you like it quieter. 6.3 tone is pretty nice. That's my lullaby to help me sleep. I also added everything that was possible. PP, lighting, seating, entertainment, lsd, etc. Everything, was only able to squeeze 4k off the price since it was 2011 and not a 2010, trunk money woulda helped, but not on 2011. After taxes and what not came out to be 83k, alot higher than the starting of a MSRP of plain 58300. They sure can get ya.
I've owned various turbo cars and I currently have a 335. Although the TT is nice nothing beats a N/A engine for me. The C63 is a beast and perhaps one of the last big displacement N/A engines in this era of government enforced emission standards. As for the 55TT I really doubt it will trickle down to the C anytime soon. My advice is to go out and drive it; if it puts a smile on your face then buy it. I did back to back test drives with the M3 and although that thing has surgical precision, it lacked the punch of that 6.2L. So I bought the latter, now comes the wait.

I couldn't have said it any better myself. I had a C350 for 11 months, I made the mistake of going to the dealership to look at the C63. One thing led to another...a week later...I was driving home my C63. The sound the engine makes as you start the car brings out the giggles and smiles in me. Gentle prodding of the throttle induces wheel spin. I just can't help but think that this will be the last of the oversized, gas guzzling N/A engines out there.

I talked with a Representative from AMG last week. And I asked him point blank about the 5.5 liter Twin Turbo (M157) engine for the C63. He said that everyone is asking this same question. He said, that they have been told not to comment on this question. But he gave me his opinion, which doesn't break the rule. The word from upper management, is that the 5.5 TT will go in the S first, then trickle over to the CL and SL which are the upper echelon in the AMG family. And if your waiting for a C63 with a 5.5 TT engine, you'll be waiting a long time. As the C63 is the entry level AMG model, Mercedes doesn't want this car to compete with other more expensive models in the AMG family at the same HP range. He said that if the C63 is to receive this engine, it will be in a detune version. So don't sit on the side line hoping, go out and get that C63 and njoy it.

here s why i went w/buying a car now, I needed a new car and I believe this or next year will be the last of the C63 w/real 6.2L V8 5.5TT does not equal 6.3 I believe fuel economy will force MB to use the turbo except in the halo cars like the SLS, to me the C63 I have on order is my SLS with 4 doorsm if the 5.5TTw as so great why no plans to use it int the SLS?

From the look of 2011 C 63 AMG and if you have the P31 (or 30 I can't remember) package, it increases to the 480 HP range (can't remember the exact number). So when I see that, why wouldn't C 63 AMG get the new engine later on?
I'm having almost the same problem as OP. My lease is over on my S 63 AMG, my Sales Rep. suggested I should lease 2011 S 63 AMG + Performance Package + CF interior for a very aggressive discount. But I've been driving S class (from S 500 to S 63) for over 9 years. I am kinda sick of it. So I am looking at the SL 63 AMG. The new 5.5 TT is a DI engine... I can't bare to imagine what will it looks like with all the carbon build up in the future... and this is why I am getting my C63 now.
