Dangers of double side taped carbon parts

As some of you might no I recently put the mcd front lip spoiler and diffuser on my car. I remember a few weeks/months ago there were question about the safety of this at high speeds... I'd like to report my real life experience.. I was at a strip rental last week with 15 120+ runs, then yesterday I was at pocono raceway on the NASCAR oval.. I did approximately 30 runs with speeds each time of 160 plus!! Not a problem everything is in place and did not losen a bit! The revozport hood, at the high speed you could see the wind moving it from underneath but zero problem!!! I will suggest if anyone is going to do this to protect the front end with heavy thick tape as I will be at the bodyshop fixing the swiss cheese front end!!

I put on my Vorsteiner trunk lid spoiler with 3m double sided tape, that thing is solid as a rock.
3M makes some great stuff, including car care products.

regarding the cf hood

i know some were saying if you're gonna do a mile run or something high speed, that you should take the cf hood off.

is this because the stock hood latch might not be able to take it?

if so, wouldn't adding some hood pins to it make it more stable?

I get lazy sometimes and go to a drive through car wash, any idea how the tape would hold up under the spining brushes?

So the MCD front spoiler ONLY has double sided tape holding it? No screws? and are you saying that the tape was secure enough?

There's 4 screws and a strip of double sided tape, it held watch my vid under c63 @ pocono! It wasn't just one quick run to 160 it was like 2 hours of beat down! 2 full tanks of fuel

Double sided tape = fail if you keep the car for any extended period of time. Splitters & spoilers are designed to produce downforce & place extreme pressures on body panels. I don't trust double sided tape to withstand these pressures even if they seem "OK" during the first year of install.

BTW the 4 screws holding on the MCD front spoiler makes more sense

First off it kinda cups over the stock lower bumper part, with that being said with speed it gets sucked on tighter it almost seems like the screws and tape would be used to keep it in place when your stopped.., but anyway all I'm saying is that with excess speed for a long time in one day there was zero problem!

+1

Double sided tape alone causes the spoiler in actuality never to sit flush on the drunk due to the thickness of the tape even if people think it's so small. With such an aggressive spoiler, a permanent installation as in screws/epoxy would be much more effective.

I used the double stick tape and I feel the only way i can take off my spoiler is to break it off. On top of that i put clear silicone around the edges so water doesn't leak through, just for extra measure.
Its probably that stuck on because i completely lined up the bottom of the spoiler with tape, there is no space left untouched.

You do realize that the factory rear spoiler is held on by double-sided tape alone, right? Just throwing it out there.

Now the front spoiler/splitters, yes, I would not dare drive any car with those held on by double-sided tape alone.
