Momentary steering groan in a.m. on first turn...
I know I posted this a month ago but I don't recall if I got any substantive answers and I don't want to have to find the old post and bump it.

Years ago Land Rover had an issue with the front input shaft coming apart on the front axle. This was due to an improperly designed input yoke on the front differential. We saw some cars with this problem that were not covered per the recall guidelines. The cost of the repair was still covered by the manufacturer in order to satisfy the customer. If I was you, I would definately raise a stink about it. After the Toyota recall, the customer's concerns are more apt to being addressed than before.

And yes, my car has this issue, and I have asked the dealer about my steering and they told me everything is fine. So, I assume my car is still up to snuff as far as steering safety goes.
I also notice that my steering is at its smoothest when my tires are inflated to proper psi.

In all seriousness, I just had this problem with my C32. Turned out to be a failing P/S pump and tank - both needed to be replaced. Good as new, now.
