What's the true cost of car to dealer?

Hi all, it seems like 2010 trunk money cars are hard to find, and it might be better to get 2011 at this point.

Does anyone know what the true cost for the 2011 car is? I have been offered below invoice but felt like there is quite a bit of room to work with. At the same time, I don't want to make an offending offer and insult the salesperson.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

8% of 58k 2011 before options is 4600, I was only able to squeeze 4k, and that felt like a victory lol.

just want to clarify - Edmunds shows the MSRP and invoice. While invoice might appear to be the cost to the dealer, dealers are also getting additional kick-backs from Mercedes and that's probably why I am getting under invoice. I have heard that 3% under invoice is the true cost.

I don't think I'm remotely close to that number. Is it even possible?

well here's the deal--they have about 7% off MSRP to get to invoice, including options.
Now they also get a 3% holdback/"kickback"
So 10% off MSRP is the "usual" cost to the dealer.
I say Usual because MB does offer extra incentives to dealershis to move cars, like the trunk money some months ago.

So if you can buy the car for 10% off MSRP w/o a trunk money situation, you're doing the best you're going to--especially with an AMG car!!

I'd be surprised if you could get 10% off a 2011 right now, but in a couple months you may get a chance to get close.
It really depends on where you're buying and how the market is locally and there's sometimes that car they just want to unload (usually for a reason)

I bought my 2011 back in August and it was an $82K car fresh off the boat and I got 7% off MSRP so they made their 3% holdback on me and that is fine--I wanted this particular car with all the goodies--it took negotiating with three dealers to get this deal--it wasn't easy, but doable if you want to put in the time.
Mine was one of the first 2011s in the US so they were not desperate to sell--that will change as time goes by, but you may have trouble finding the car you want the longer you wait--especially a highly optioned one!

Honestly, after owning this car, paying a couple grand more at this price range, who cares--I'm all about gettting a deal, but this car is worth every penny IMO, I said it to my wife tonight after I picked up takeout!!
This car rocks anything better than 5% off a 2011 right now is well worth it IMO!
Good luck--buy it now so you can start

The car I am looking at is optioned roughly the same as your car. The only option that I thought was not necessary would be the CF trim, but it's hard to get P31 without it.

I agree with what you are saying. Without the trunk money on 2011, I don't think they have much room to negotiate below invoice. 3% of 80K would be 2400, and I'm not pretty much squeezing every penny out of them. Just want to check with you guys again so I don't miss anything.

If you're trading a car in they can obviously play a shell game and make it look like they're giving you a great deal on the new car and hosing you on your trade simultaneously!

Shop around it's the best way to get a deal for anything--especially cars

believe it or not, after reading this, I can somewhat justify spending so much money on the options decision decision decision....

Yes, that's why I am negotiating on the new car by itself now. After we agree on the price, I can then decide if I want to trade in or sell the car privately.

I've said it on here before, if you're the type of person who wants these options and then talk yourself out of them (because of the cost) you may be disappointed everytime you drive your car and there is nothing worse than paying a lot of money for something and second guessing yourself after you spent your hard earned money!

The CF Trim I could have lived w/o (so I thought initally) and I never saw it in person before I ordered it, but I am so happy with it now, especially when you have the CF trunk spoiler w/ the P31.
I made the decision to buy the CF trim because it looked so nice in pics on here and others loved it--I thought I might regret it if I didn't get it so "poof" $2500 gone!
But now that I have the car w/ it I'm happy I spent the money, it upgrades the interior and I don't have to feel like I missed out on something
This is my opinion, some people obviously can't justify the added cost and I understand their point, especially if you're not keeping this car for a while--I plan to keep this car a long time so 8 - 10yrs from now I won't care about the extra $ I spent on the options.
If you're going to trade this car in in a few years you will get hammered on the extras, so each their own and everyone has their own situation.
Depending on one's financial health, an extra grand here or there may or may be such a big deal--we all have priorities and ways we like to spend our money--do what makes you feel the most comfortable!

Just because someone thinks an $80K C63 is crazy doesn't mean you have to agree--I didn't just buy the car I also bought the experience of owning the car!

In the US it's about 12% off MSRP, so normally a dealer will sell at 8% off no problem. This is why they can give out military discount at 10% and still make money.

Or 120.000$ in Germany. The car is way cheaper in your
country, than in the country the car is produced...can't get it :-D

Even a used 2008 c63 without leather seats and any other option
is more expensive than a new 2011 in US.

I think THIS car is pretty close to a steel in your country. Buy it:-)
Would love to live over there too;-)

Also jelouse on the Gas price you guys get ^^ HEHE

Best regards,
Daniel

That is only true when you have several dealers in a given area. Not everybody enjoys this. There have been numerous posts on MBW where people have to drive 100+ miles to get to just 1 dealer. Those of course may or may not play that % game.
