First dyno for my stock C63 - disappointing result??
Hi guys,
I'm getting new headers/exhaust and tune done on my C63 and took my car into the workshop today to get the work started. I wanted to get a dyno run done at stock to determine what sort of results the tune/exhaust give me. I thought I'd seek some advice on here since so many of you blokes have dyno'd your C63's... This is the first time I've ever dyno'd a car I've owned so please give me some slack if my questions sound stupid...
I'm currently uploading the dyno to youtube so everyone can have a look and comment but I'm pretty disappointed with the result. The best run we did was 348RWHP - gathering from what you blokes have posted with 370+RWHP I'm a little disappointed to say the least!!!
The conditions were spot on this morning. 17 degrees celcius (62 degrees Fahrenheit). My C63 is a 2010 build and is only 6 months old with about 7,000 KM's (4,375 Miles) on the clock.
Please fire any other questions if I haven't provided enough information... I'm really miffed at the results - how come my C63 isn't anywhere near the other stock results? Could the mechanics be doing something wrong?
I guess the youtube clip will reveal more info as well so I'll post a follow up as soon as it's uploaded.
Cheers and thanks in advance for any advice,
John

what kinda dyno, mustang, dynopack, dynojet, dynodynamics if im not mistaking the mustang and dynodynamics read lower but are more "correct" dont feel bad man true number speak at the track for you trap speed, some cars will put gazzilion number on a dyno and wont run **** at the track thus the term "dyno queen" other will put down ok numbers and run great at the track try posting a link to the vid

Dyno Dynamics is an Aus based company. I would assume they are a little more common down under. If so don't be upset with the numbers. If you do mods the delta will tell some of the tail.

From what I understand your hp number is very normal for C63's in Australia.
The 370 rwhp that you see on this site are 93 octane cars on a dynojet.
My 91 octane, Mustang dyno read 349 rwhp / 345 rwtq.
Your car is fine, as there is no reason it shouldn't be. Plus, it may get a tad more powerful as you put some more miles on the car.

I'll be heading up there in 2 days to pick it up after the exhaust and tune so I'll be interested to see the gains and will post the results and video of the results when I get back...

Thats all good, dont stress. When i got my exhaust fitted best i made was just over 400rwhp, with that figure i ran a 11.9@119mph with a best of 121. I would of gone quicker aswell. Numbers can dissapoint but the main thing is how much you pick up actually

I guess I'll wait and see what happens after the tune and exhaust. Might get it on another dyno afterwards to get an idea of what it might look like with another brand dyno...
Out of interest, how much should I pay for a few runs on a dyno?

Am I missing something here? So you actually lost power after fitting the exhaust?

5th is 1:1 but you wind up on the speed limiter unless you have PP or an ecu already. i got 349 for my run in 5th as well. just remember its A number not THE number.

I wish you the best of luck with that goal, RNS. I'm sure you'll attain it.

Don't get caught up with a "number", as many have already stated the type of dyno makes a huge difference, one of those cars that posted close to 370 on a Dynojet will most likely only post 350 or so on a Dyno Dynamics dyno. These cars do not vary in HP output by 20rwhp, they are all consistant within +/-5 (or so) rwhp.
The more important factor that nobody has touched on is that since you are using this data as your baseline data be sure that each time you make a mod get the car back on the same dyno using the same factors and version of software and try to shoot for similar conditions (weather/temps). This will ensure that you are seeing the exact gains each mod is netting you, a 10% gain is a 10% gain no matter what dyno you are on. Whenever possible I try to make one modification and then dyno the car, this will show specific gains or even loses (yes, it happens) for each mod rather than throwing a bunch of stuff on the car and then doing a dyno test and not knowing what mod did what. I know that due to time and money this method can not always be used but it really is the best way to tune. The worst thing you can do is jump from dyno to dyno, thay are all going to read differently, you will even find that there are slight variations between different dynos of the same model.

+10000 don't worry too much about how low or high your dyno numbers are. I can almost guarantee you that on some dyno machines, you can see higher numbers while on other dynos, you can see lower numbers. Just focus on the delta before and after each mod. Also, take the car to the track and see how it acts in real-world conditions

everything
The dyno is a Mainline brand which is not popular in the USA, so it is better to compare your results against other C63's dynoed in Australia on a mainline dyno
