Hi guys

Just a side note... awesome car... loving every drive. I change cars every 6 months to a year but now im hooked. going to keep this one a while.

Anyway

I'm in Australia and have a 2009 July build C63. I want to install a reverse camera and have read the very helpful threads on this forum but still have questions.

Here in Australia the 2010 C63 comes standard with a reverse camera and i was wondering if the 2009 model has the wiring loop already installed?

Reason being is i removed the head unit and located the green plug to plug into but it already has a plug in it. What else could this plug be used for?

I have spoken to several dealers and they have all told me that a reverse camera cant be fitted to the car??

Is there anyone with an Australian delivered 2009 C63 that has done the mod?

Thank you

If it works on the US it should work in Australia. I dunno if you searched in the w204 regular C class section, if you didn't try cyclops. I don't know how to do it, cuz I had someone do it for me.

Try Midcity
Try Midcity Engineering. We are at about parity wuth the US$ so works out well. They have a video and pdf detailing installation.

I have been toying with it but just have not got around to it yet.

I agree great car - love everyday driving it!

Have you guys tried calling Mid City? I found them to be very helpful with my order when I called them up. I can't comment about the email situation, as I'm more of a pick up the phone and call till someone picks up kind of guy.

sad to report i started calling them after identifying Rob ( at mid city engineering ) on this forum on Jan 31st, and since have spoken to Rob, Dan, and TJ re this since Jan 31st and recap they had my credit card info since Feb 1st for go ahead and shipment.

Till now ( feb 15th ) still no products received

summary of my experience with mid city ( this is also communicated to Dan the owner )

1) lack of commercialised products ( R230 back up camera was supposed to be avail from them / on their website )
2) unclear communication, and why customisation needed, and lead times
3) no feedback via repeated emails / no one return calls
4) no simple statements / order details
5) shipment, sitting in an unknown status for 4 days ( while customer paid UPS premium service is only 4 days )
6) not even an electronic document / installation manaul / user manaul to ease installation preps in advance

and the reply from Dan " Understood... as for #6 we have that available.. I am emailing it now.. "

judge it yourselves re mid city engineering

I believe they are pre wired for cameras.
You can enable the rear camera function trough a hidden menu on the nav interface.

Let me see where i can find that dam wiring diagram.
I think you only need a RCA to FAKRA cable and allot of companies sells them.

I saw it a while ago and I believe it was in the trunk lid … or right side.

I will post it if i find it tomorrow on my work machine.

As an update were stubborn enough to continue proceed through ( with Midcity owner Dan help ),
So we finally sorted out all issues over several long duration calls, and received the VIM 230K Feb 17th Thu pm and rebook the first available installation from Monday.
My sound pro shop charged me 4.5 hours for his detailed 9 hours job, and some very minor observations from him were
- camera power cable a bit too short ( need extensions, minor )
- lack of trunk panels disasembly / camera installation manual ( not that he needed, but other novice may benefit )
- PCB is sitting a bit loose inside the shielding box ( simple fix )
- the " Blue reverse guilding lines " of MB COMAND are not that well oriented - see pics below ( and also wont move with the steering wheel, but likely not Mid city issue )
but other that thse have to say the kit is quite well engineered
- good quality PCB, shield box, and associated harnesses, good quality camera housing / images
- the 2 sec end call key even handles / toggles " Vehicle In Motion " and " Backup camera "
- but that will end call in progress : ( a bit of shame here due to limited buttons ).

So it has been two weeks and overall the midcity kit works quite well.
