Do you warmup?

When I bought my C63, the original owner showed me the AMG menu and stated "Everytime you get in the car, make sure it warms up to 81 degrees (celsius) before you bring the car over 3000 rpm". Since then, I have stuck to this rule.

The problem is, my commute to work is only about 5 minutes, and although the ambient air temperature warms up, oil temps really don't. This makes my commute infinitly less fun.

Anyways, that's besides the point. How militant are you about warming up your car?

I may be a little too cautious, but i wait until temps reach 217F on top and 197F on bottom. Once the temps reach normal levels, I drive it soft for about 8-10 miles before i do any WOT runs.

I always wait till it stops blinking. I'm sure they put that precaution in the system for good reasons.

Always - there's nothing more damaging to a motor than high revs with low oil temp.

I usually wait a few minutes before temps reach at least 80F/110F... then I drive keeping it under 3000 rpm until oil temp reaches 200F. At that point I feel free to WOT if needed.

Do you mean you idle it until the temps reach 217F on top and 197F on bottom?

I start mine up and drive off as soon as the idle stabilizes after just a few seconds. Then I drive the car normally till it warms up in C mode. Probably never more than 2500 rpm and less most of the time. Once the car warms up I feel free to slowly raise the limits untill the car is fully warmed up and oil temps reach at least 200*F (95*C). I will do at least 10 miles before I push it too hard and maybe 15 to 20 before I do WOT from a dig. Not so worried from a roll and in 3 rd gear or higher. Then it is more about trans temps and 1st > 2nd gear shift torque.

I drive it on C mode and not go up 3000 rpm, and wait until the blinking numbers of the oil temp stops, usually to about 188F . WHEN THE BLINKING STOPS, THE FUN STARTS.

Really? Mine stops blinking at 176F, is this normal for all US?
I drive normal with no high revs until it stops blinking and then I drive how ever I want--I usually switch to S mode after blinking too.
I have never WOT unless the car is above the 176F and I never will either

BTW this is my 500th post, do I get a free t-shirt

I always warm up the engine. At least 90-100 degrees Fahrenheit.

Sorry if i was unclear. I usually let the car warm up to about 130F then drive soft until i reach the optimum temps. Then on top of that i drive at least 8-10 miles to warm up the transmission and whatnot. With temperatures in the 20's i wouldn't want to WOT on a cold transmission.

How long do you have to wait till it gets to 130F for oil? I'd imagine thats quite a long time. I usually wait till the idle stabilizes below 1K and drive soft till the oil temp stop blinking (~177F).

I drive slowly under 30 mph until the oil temperature stop flashing. Then the beast comes out

First off, on the 500 posts!

I think mine stops blinking at 177*F.

Do you switch transmission modes while you're driving? I put the car in park and then switch modes.

If my car starts off in S mode for the first start-up of the day, I am very careful not to let the revs jump as I'm driving down my street. But, I think the revs sometimes jump close to 3000. I back off the throttle and let the car settle.

I don't think that hurts it because it's so temporary and I hardly ever let it happen.

I sit in the car, turn it on. Cold start goes, during cold start I shift into M/ESP-OFF. I start to move once the cold start stops. I reverse down the driveway and drive off.

Then I might hit 4000-5000 rpm in the first 10-20 seconds of driving (I need to get across the road, then do a u-turn, so need to get up to speed quickly sometimes), then from there is a cruise for a few intersections till the flashing turns off, then will hit WOT several times every time on the way to work.

Thanks--I guess the next milestone is 1000 posts
That should take a while, unless we have another Forum Wars thread

some 2010s and all 2011s have a software update that doesn't allow the car to start up in anything other than C mode.
I asked at the PL about switching between C, S and M mode while driving and they said it was okay, even though the manual says otherwise.
I try to switch to S when the car is not moving, stop light, etc, but sometimes I do it while driving
