Lightbulb C63 AMG Winter Driving & Tires

My new C63 AMG has been fantastic until this week. Tires can't get any traction in 1 inch of snow. Slid off road twice this week.

Can someone recommend tires, weight in truck, etc??? Or else I'm selling my dream car...

Thanks.

You should be good with dedicated snows. There's some threads here of some recommendations if you look around. Some people have said it's actually pretty good with the right tires on.

If you can afford a C63 surely you can afford a winter beater...

With winter tires, the car is passable. Without... well that's just a bad idea.

I use Vredenstein Wintraks on the C63 - fantastic snow tires for this particular car - other cars, other snows, byt the V's are great for the C63

Been cruising around all day in 10-12 inches with Blizzaks on my E55. They are excellent tires for the roughest conditions.

I have a beater but I really only use it when I need to move or pick up big stuff.

There's no reason why you can't/shouldn't drive these cars 365 days a year.

There is only one problem with a beater... you have to drive a "crappy" car for 3-4 months a year... although I would get an RS5 to drive in winter.

Your winters must be a LOT better than mine......

this is what I have on for the winters......and they are 225 all around

<a href="http://s298.photobucket.com/albums/m...t=IMG_1874.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i298.photobucket.com/albums/m...3/IMG_1874.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>
http://i298.photobucket.com/albums/m...3/IMG_1874.jpg

got stuck four times last year and once this year. the tires have less than 5 months (about 5K) of use on them.

also had the car lose all power and electronics 3x last winter....it only does this when the traction control is on continuously for extended periods of time. this is pretty scary when it happens. the car just decides to shut off cause it senses than the conditions are just too dangerous to drive.

also, to give you an idea about my condtions, my snow plow guy got stuck on my driveway driving a 3/4 ton truck and was quite embarrassed.

my opinion is that my conditions are probably a bit more harsh than yours and your tires are a bit better than mine. overall verdict remains the same.......just becuase you can get away with it, doesn't make it a snart thing to do. please answer me this: if you put your snow tires on your A4 with quattro, how do you think it would perform compared to the C63 with 440 torque to the rear wheels only? I think we al know the answer to that.

I reallly miss my RS4 in the winter! The C63 is pretty comparable for 8 months of the year though!

let me get this right? you bought a 400+hp rwd giant v8 stuffed into a small four door sports car and are pissed off with how it drives in the snow?

get dedicated snows or a dedicated snow car/truck, your stock tires are undoubtedly ultra high performance summer tires that hopeless attempt to cling to traction on dry pavement but you want them to hold in the snow?

Get a 97 Audi A4 2.8 quarto for like 3k and call it a day... Even if the POS has an engine light on, just ignore it for three months a year.

Can't see your pics, what tires do you have? The quattro is great on steep icy hills but outside that both cars do fine. In Montreal the trafic is pretty bad and people drive slow in the winter so I'm already maxing out my speed anyways. On the 5-6 snow storm days I'd prefer the audi but that's it... The C63 gets me from point A to point B without any problem.

Snow is one thing but when temps drop down to -20C or below you definitely won't enjoy driving a car like this. Sure you could drive it and risk your car and your life but why would you?

Traction to get you going is one thing but wait until some dumbass in a POS does something stupid in front of you and you have to change lanes quickly or hammer on the brakes. You'll long for AWD or a cheaper car to take the abuse.

I love my C63 when it is that cold.

In fact, that is the only time I take it out now as it doesn't get as dirty... haha

And the car stops on a dime, even in snow. Big brakes and good tires do all the work.

AWD isnt going to do anything when it comes to stopping and very little if any in turning, especially if you have no traction in the first place, this is where proper winter tires come into play

Not only that, it has way more power. Relative DA goes down. More air, more gas, more power! haha
