Comparing C63 AMG & my 500E

Hi Guys,

New here, coming from the 500Espot.com

I will need to buy a newer MB this year in place of my 1991 500E. Its 20 years old now and although I love owning it for almost 7 years, its time for it to go.

My question is how does the C63 compare to the older 1990s MBs? the C63 is obviously faster and alot of 'stuff'. But does it provide the same brutal yet robust feeling as my 500E did? Do you have to floor it to feel that its fast and fun to drive, or is effortless performance? is it smooth and comfortable or bouncy and stiff as a 911 or a M3?

FYI, the 500E has about the same weight and dimensions as the C63, Drag CF is the same and its the original ''Flared Fender Benz''...But it looks way more classier than a C63

My other choices are the E63 (BIG,Brakes and struts cost $$$$) or a 1994 BRABUS E500 with 460PS and 680NM !!

Thanks in advance

I highly recommend that you go and test drive the 63's first. My definition of fast and stiff can be your definition of slow and soft.

Test drive one. When I first started it up I was sold! I don't think the C63 is for everyone-has a hard ride like a sports car but practical.

My dad ownes W124 AMG E60 LTD and he loves it. He said that he will never let it go. Still there is so many W124 E500 fans in Japan. People say that its one of the best car that Mercedes made. They are nice car for sure.

For me I would take C63 for sure.

E500 Brabus is nice also. Very rare.

My suggestion is to go and test drive a C63. It is vastly quicker in every aspect.

I would guess that the C63 is a bit faster, especially with a tune. If you want bouncy and stiff, pick one with P30/31.

Don't sell your 500E.

It IS one of best and rarest MBs, and holds its value extremely well.(as long as it is under good condition.)

This is C63 forum, everybody will tell you to go with C63.
I would take mint condition 500E over brand new C63 in any day.

Thanks for the inputs guys,

But driving it for 10 minutes is something... driving it everyday is something else. I wouldn't find out as much with just a test drive.

I need a BENZ with BIG V8 for Porsche killer straight line performance, not a track car.

I am not looking for a silent S-class, My parents own a 2007 S500L (2002 S500 Before), both cars will put you to sleep even at full throttle!!

E63 is nice but I don't like excessive feature that are expensive to fix (Brakes and Airmatic).

Would you say the c63 ride is similar to AIRMATIC position I OR II ?

HIRO63, putting performance figures a side, how would you compare both cars?

Regards

True my friend, mine has 250,000 KM and it still easily does 260km/h.

But many factors come into consideration and I don't have space for many cars ;(

500E is simply an amazing car in every way but then again so is the C63. I don't see the C63 having such a cult like following for over 20 years but its still an amazing machine and I cant wait until they drop into the low 30k rang so I can pick on up. I am also toying with the idea right now of picking up a 500e in trade for my E36 M3, keeping the C43 and 500E, then buying a third car down the line, ie C63. Is there anyway you could keep the 500E as a garage queen and drive the C63 as a DD?

Those years if you compare the cars now. I just feel that Mercedes Benz put more money and time into the car. That is what my dad say. More leather is used in the past.

The looks with wide fender, etc is just nice!! You can tell its different right away that its not 300E.

But its very hard to compare both cars. They are both nice car.

X2 on test driving the car. In a 10 minute ride, you will be able to hear the engine roar, feel the power and also understand how solid it is built.
The two cars are not comparable power wise. One is a fast car, the other is in the supercar "range".
I am not putting down the E500. It has better built materials and the C may feel a bit cheap when it comes to the interior.
The seats are better in the C as far as hugging you. The C has bucket seats and some has criticized that it is difficult to get in and out.
The ride with the P30 package is a bit rough but it all depends on your road conditions. I have had E46 M3, 997S, and a few corvettes and the the C rides better or than all of them (I had 20s with low profiles 30s on the P car so that did not help).
The C will have goodies like bluetooth, sat nav, etc... and if a daily driver, this makes a big difference in enjoying your car.
