Best Start at drag race

What is the best way to start at the drag race? Tire Size front and back and air pressure for DR tires.

1. S mode? M mode?
2. ESP ON? OFF?
3. To what RPM do you rev up at the start?

Thanks

Hero: as far as street tires go your best bet is something very soft or get DR's.
you wanna get them to about 22-25 PSI and just mash the gas you should be good.

I was wondering the same thing about whether he was racing in the Sahara desert. And when you and Mike talk drag racing, I, like many others pay close attention.

And I really would like to know how you even use ESP Sport to a performance advantage. I don't see it being any sort of benefit for drag racing.

ESP sport is more for road racing and for street use if you cant grip.
if you have DR's at a drag strip and your spinning something is wrong with the driver. (not you just saying in general)

mthis, have you found a sweet spot for tire pressure at the strip w/ the Nittos?

I've played with everything from 18-22 psi. What do you run?

I understand.

That makes sense about ESP Sport. I still think it would take some dedicated practice to learn how to modulate the throttle in such a way that you could really extract the benefits from ESP Sport. It cuts in so quick.

Mthis: I just paid attention to your sig for the first time and noticed you hit 0-60 in 3.26. WOW! What is the fastest you hit 0-60 using street tires?

It all depends on the track prep. If prep is good then keep it as high as u can. Prep no good you have to drop the pressure if that don't help then heat them up really really good.
I don't know if there is a sweet spot bc everytime I run my car I hotlap it and onces that happens tire pressure goes up.
I start high with presure then drop it if I have to.

Super. Of topic I was reading somewhere that u use autoenginuity to datelog the car. Can you tell me how you have been able to datelog the MHP tune with that system. I been trying but only can log thru Non-OBD-|| only
Now my other tune from tuner X I can log thru OBD-|| compliant.

all you need is dragstrip with good prep and some DR's with low tire pressure that should be easy 1.7 60 foot on a good tune.

Thanks. What do you usually start at? I need to figure out how to get these 60' times under 1.7. I've been consistently in the 1.79X. I'm going to start holding the RPMs at 1000-1200.

I have not used Autoenginuity since getting the MHP V3 tune. It worked great with the Kleemann K1/K2 files; I assumed it would work the same. I'll throw it on when I get home tonight to see if I have any issues.

no worries with the MHP tune you will get 1.7's by rolling into the gas.
super you have the rite parts to go fast and even faster then me, but when you at the track study what your car does, how it takes off where does your converter lock up, try to get that lag out once that happens you will see low 1.7's all day.

if you can keep me updated that would be great tnx super.

mthis, do you find that achieving low 1.7's is dependent on traction/launch technique/efficiency and rwhp/rwtq or mostly just on the former?

What I'm asking is (and I understand my question may not have been phrased so great) can a 350 rwhp C63 achieve low 1.7's/60' with proper traction/launch technique/efficiency, i.e., rolling into throttle "just right" with DR's?

Or, does achieving low 1.7's require more rwhp/rwtq than a stock C63 has (even a stock C63 running 93-95 octane)?

the only stock c63 that might hit 1.79 60 foot might be a c63 P31.

yes you need power to get you out the hole more like TQ the HP but HP helps 2.

All this 1/4 mile talk has my juices flowing. It feels like years
since I raced.

I think low 1.7 60's are going to be very hard to get from a stock
C63(roughly 350 rwhp). Drag radials, good track prep and a
really good driver help but the weight of the car is the ultimate
stumbling block. Add a tune to the mix and 1.7's are a reality.

I've gone a best of 1.78 with tune, drag radials and carbonio's
and about the same with a RENNtech box.

I can imagine you want to get back out to the track soon. You were going pretty often. And I'm sure you'll go even faster now that you have more experience to build on.

1.78/60' is really good with the mods you had at the time.

come to MIR on the 18th, im driving my car down there plus some other members from NY, its a friday and it will be worth taking off that day bc i dont think we will have another cold rental till NOV
if you come ill let you use my new skinnies that i got for this season
plus if you come then we will have 4 of 5 fastest c63's on record running same day, that alone is worth the ride down.

MIR sounds like it would be fun especially meeting fellow owners but that
ride is a tough one. I'm going to have to pass. If you get an Atco rental,
I'm in.

I hear Keith may be going?

I'm gonna try the MTs, 265/40/18. Do you think it's Pac raceways setup that might be holding us back, or do you know of others that have cut a good 60 there? BTW, just called them and they said April for test n tune.

What was the lowest PSI you got those hoosiers down to? I remember talking about a GT500 track video with you and they were down to 15 PSI and getting sick 60'
