MCD Big Trunk Spoiler (FRP) color-matched

Purchased this from the recent MCD Blowout Sale. The fitment of the spoiler is about 95% perfect as-is due to a very slight bowing which is expected (as I noted in Dr.Q's recent rant thread) on any resin/cloth type product (FRP/CF). By the time I install it with double-sided tape, it should lay flat and be fine. As good measure, I will also run some silicone to make sure it doesn't fly off.

IMO, the spoiler is not overly aggressive once it is color-matched. The pictures below is shown as it is laid on top of the decklid without any double-sided tape holding it down for demonstration purpose. Now the PITA apart is getting the OEM double-sided tape off the decklid.

Thanks for the great deal, MCD.

Wow, your spoiler looks amazing!! Good job... clean & classy! Could you give me any tips on removing the OEM, I have yet to do it.

Thanks. I really like how it is not overtly aggressive. I used a nylon twine and ran it back-and-forth under the spoiler. Don't bother using floss. The ridges of the twine have a little "bite" and act as a saw and is soft enough not to scratch the paint. That is the easy part. The PITA is removing the residue left behind.

Funny thing is that the spoiler is "well balanced." I thought it would fall off if I placed it on the decklid for photos, but, it sits there just fine without any tape holding it.

I'd imagine yours would fit the same. It "appears" that BOCA and MCD could be the same product.

Thanks for the advice, my bodyshop recommended me to use a heat gun and work the OEM spoiler up slowly. Your advice seems safer as I dont want to force/break the spoiler.

I know what you mean about the spoiler being "well balanced", I took pics of it while sitting on my OEM & it was pretty stable... hehehe!

You probably need the heat gun the heat up the tape since you live in a colder climate.

Damn dude, what a clean job. You really chose wisely. Color match is like spot on. And the breadth of the spoiler is good. Excellence. Good. He's a good kid, ya know, he's a good fella....

By the way I love the 1991 Max hedrom, post modernistic chick art framed in the background. It reminds me of my parents place in San Diego. At least you have in the garage, my parents have that stuff hanging in the living room and dining room....

Zephyr, I was going to comment about the art frame too... very nice! Too nice to be in the garage... hehehe!

Sin, how much did your bodyshop charged you for the paint? I'm curious cuz my bodyshop decided to paint mine at no charge as a favor. :P

$100 to paint. Labor rates vary from city-to-city.

LOL on the Nagels. I had them since the late 80s and my wife wanted me to donate them. I couldn't bear doing that so into the garage they went. They are all just prints with an exception of one that is numbered.

Looks great in Iridium Silver. I have the CF version and I'm having major fitment issues. I'm thankful for good customer service on their part.
Sounds stupid- but the Nagel prints was the first thing I noticed in the pictures. Brought back memories and I wish I still had mine.

I hear you about the Nagels. What issues do you have? The only issue I have is that it is and will not be perfect on the end at the passenger side. As you can see in the pic, the passenger end will never lay flat even with tape on it. The deviation is less than 2mm which is fine because the factory one also has a tiny gap.

If I make the top corners flush with the trunk- the bottom of the spoiler (back of the trunk) drops about 1/2-3/4" towards the passenger side. 2mm? I could deal with that. My aftermarket spoiler I bought from formymercedes.com is perfect fitment.

LOL wait til the temps come up a bit and then use a heat gun/blow dryer and dental floss; work the dental floss back and forth and use googone to get the adhesive off

Good Luck
