Black crap on the rear bumper...
OK, so what is this stuff that appears 5 minutes after a wash on my shiny white C63? Is it brake dust or exhaust soot?

You don't have a clue what it is do you?
It's the tire shine that you put on the wheels
Think about it for a second.......LOL

Funny. I'm not f-ing 12. It's not dirt, either. It's either exhaust soot or brake dust. Just wondering which. I'm thinking brake dust because there seems to also be an accumulation of metallic particulates (like fallout) on the bumper surface that need to be taken out with clay. Just was wondering what the smart people here had to say.

Yep, I have the same problem with my white C63... I think it is the whirlwind when driving that picks up all the crap such as rubber dust, brake dust, road dirt and maybe even exhaust soot and lands it on the rear of the car.

there are a few threads on this and people have been complaining about the dual exhaust and the exessive amount of exhaust soot that accumulates due to the turbulance in the tail and the collecting all over the rear. EVERYTIME i wash and come back after 1 drive it looks like the inside of a chimney on mine.

i get this too! i thought it was just my car. i dont even have to drive around it happens when i start my car to drive it in the garage you can clearly see the black dust or whatever it is

mine gets it. i just thought it was dust, dirt, and exhaust. its no biggie really. if you notice your rear fenders get it down low as well. just wash her after you drive her a day or two.

I think it comes from the tires, due to the amount of rear tow in. I get it even on an interstate run when brakes are hardly used. This is why it is also found behind the rear wheels down low and away from the exhaust. Seems like static holds it to the paintwork making it hard to remove with a duster. I have to use detail spray.
