I went to the Atco last night and the track prep was terrible. Couldn't hook up even with drag radials. Decided on my last run to put traction control in sport mode and managed an 11.70 @ 122.56 with a mediocre 1.837 60'
Made a total of 4 runs:
Run 1: 12.25 @ 119+ (1.988 60') Traction OFF
Run 2: 11.90 @ 120+ (1.918 60') Traction OFF
Run 3: 11.84 @ 121+ (1.914 60') Traction OFF
Run 4: 11.70 @ 122+ (1.837 60') Sport mode
The car was getting stronger with more runs coupled with cooler weather.

but now i need to shop for tires... decisions decisions... 95% of the time i'll be on the street daily driving... but i want something stickier than my pilot sport a/s plus so if when i do go to the track, i can be ready for some runs

my michelins have a mileage warranty and if i get credit for it, then i can only apply the credit towards michelin or bfg tires... so if possible, i'd like to stick to them to save some dough.

what's the right way to stop or slow down during a burn out?
i held the brake with my left foot then stepped on the gas to about 4000rpm and a little higher after being into it for a second or so... then i eased off the brake and i started slowly going forward while tires were still spinning... at this point i wasn't sure what i was supposed to do... the first few times i let off the brake and slowly eased off the gas but the car started moving forward too much and i didn't want to keep going passed the staging line...
some of the other times i started the same way but i guess i burned out a bit longer and my car started to point a little to the left and started going forward... so i just left off the gas completely and it kind of jerked forward a little bit and i was able to straighten up...
each time i was able to stop the car before the staging line... is it worse for the tires in general when doing a burn out if you abruptly stop? or should you let your car roll forward and let the tires spin down on it's own?

Normally, I roll through the water and stop just after the water box. Have the car in M mode, start my burnout exactly as you did(left foot brake, right foot gas) and full throttle the pedal anywhere between 5 to 10 seconds. After I see a good amount of tire smoke I release the brake and let the car roll forward as the wheels are spinning. Switch to S mode, click the left paddle and try to shallow stage the car.
And you said you floor it? Is it ok to bump off the limiter like that?
And also is it ok to do burn outs in this manner? I've read that it isn't that great for the car but I don't see another way to do a burn out. And I'm assuming everyone else does it the same way.

So after you release the brakes, what are you doing with the gas?

No damage is done if you hit the limiter, it's there as a safety.
A burnout is not good for the tires, brakes and it will also build excess heat in the transmission.
Normally this is how a brunout is done unless you install a line lock.

I continue to press the gas pedal and on occasion I hit the rev limiter.

so what you do is left foot brake, right foot full throttle (pedal to the floor)... spin for 5-10 seconds looking for smoke. then release the brake with your right foot still on the gas at full throttle. then your car starts moving forward and then what? do you ease off the throttle as you notice your car starting to go forward quickly? or do you let off the throttle completely to keep your car going way too far.

from your previous post, you said you full throttle the pedal for your burn out... doesn't this mean you're definitely hitting the rev limiter a lot?

I try to ease off the throttle as it starts moving forward but occasionaly I get overzealous and hit the limiter.
This is me doing a burnout, it might explain it better.

The first time with the line lock, it accel'd so quickly in first that I banged off the limiter before I could shift into second...it'll come real quick, espcially with headers and no brake resistance.

i don't know how many times is considered habit... but i would think i would only go to the track about 2 times a year... and i would only want to go if i got some different tires i wanted to test or another mod... but i don't see another big mod in my future except for tires.

i got the tires installed yesterday morning... they feel pretty good so far...
do you have to break in the tires before going to a drag strip?
any new tips or suggestions now that i got new rubber? although they're not DRs

i'm assuming i'll have to try a few runs differently... like just flooring it at the light, or starting from 1000rpm or higher... or if too much wheel spin, try to ease into it a little bit

isn't there a point when traction is in sport mode and the tires spin too much and the traction control kicks in?

may not kick in. It takes practice.

so i wasn't able to go on saturday night like i had planned... i didn't realize that track i went to closed early on saturdays...
the next day was import face off in dallas... i went with my gf and they also did test and tune runs in between, i was only able to make 3 runs... but the time slips were a little disappointing... i was running 12.2 and 12.3... but the weather was quite warm too...
when i check the DA today, it showed as 2389 compared to the 960ish the first time i went last month... i didn't realize it made that big of a difference...
here are my times in order... my best time on the slips was my first run
12.242 @ 116.32 DA corrected 11.899 @ 119.757
12.392 @ 116.66 DA corrected 12.044 @ 120.107
12.266 @ 117.55 DA corrected 11.922 @ 121.023
if i went by DA corrected, i ran a personal best... but it looks so much better on paper damn it
