Hi,

ESP "Off" on street tires can become very scary if you are not careful. You can't just smash the gas pedal the way you did and expect the tires to hook.
With ESP "Off" and on street tires your best bet is to try and feather the throttle off the line. You should start with ESP "Sport" until you feel more comfortable and do a little burnout to get the tires warm.

ESP On: The electronic stability program is fully engaged. Think of it as a dog on a leash. Mercedes is holding the leash.

ESP Off: The electronic stability program is disabled and will not interfere if the vehicle loses control. No leash on the dog.

ESP Sport: The electronic stability program is engaged but will allow for spirited driving and will intervene if necessary. The leash is there but it's a little loose.

Thanks Petro for the reply, it's very well explained.Feather on gas at beginning(slow start) and smash the gas once the tire hook??

Exactly. It takes practice but eventually you will get the feel of the car and how far you can push it before the tires actually spin.

i beat my previous pb et tonight. unfortunately, i'm still on street tires... i used to be on michelin pilot super sports, but they were too expensive for my kind of daily driving... my current dd street tires are Nexen N3000... i've used them before and they are great daily driving tires for the price... and so far they have gotten me my best 60' time and 1/4 et so far...

all runs done in S mode... esp in sport mode...

11.916 @ 118.20 2000rpm
60' 1.933 DA +899
11.812 @ 119.229 - DA corrected

some other notable times from tonight

11.95@117.9
60' 1.929 DA +899
11.846@11.8311 - DA corrected

12.045@116.12
60' 1.911 DA +888
11.942 @ 117.111 - DA corrected

11.917 @ 118.35 1700rpm
60' 1.901 DA +888
11.815 @ 119.36 - DA corrected

11.974 @ 117.46
60' 1.915 DA +888
11.872 @ 118.462

and thanks to petroc63 suggesting i try esp sport mode... i've been playing around with it and it's been working great so far on street tires... i found my sweet spot to launch between 1500-1800 rpm... i even tried 2000rpm... but strangely it only worked out for me once... and that one time ended up giving me my best et...

yep, definitely fun!

my first race was against an IS-F... he had traction issues... it wasn't close... i talked to him and his friend in an is350 afterward... friendly guys... i don't get to see many IS-Fs around and that was the first time i raced one... too bad it was bone stock though on 255s in the rear... he was running mid 13s... he just picked up the car used... had paper tags... so he was still learning the car

Good to see you out racing.

I use those Nexen 3000 for a street tire too, they are good and CHEAP.. Gotta use cheap tires on these cars for the rear as they get eaten up so quickly.

exactly... at least for me they drive just fine, no problems, last a long time even on this car, and even work great in the rain as long as you're not going crazy

I don't get it. With those decent DAs and mods, seems like your trap speed is about 4-5mph lower than what it should be. Any idea what the issue might be?

No idea... Could it be because I'm on street tires? I don't know what my times could be if I were on drags and getting 1.7-1.8 60' times...

I may have an exhaust leak somewhere around my headers. I have heard some slight rattles from underneath while idle... I need to get it checked out but I've read that an exhaust leak around that area shouldn't rob me of too much or if at all... Either way, those are my only thoughts.

Congrats on your new personal best. What were your 60' times? Any wheel spin?

Have you thought about trying their V4 tune?

60' times are posted under the times i listed above

from what i could tell, i wasn't having much wheel spin...
i held the brake at the starting line... held it at 1700rpm and then let go of the brake and stomped on the go pedal...
on some runs, it felt like it started off a little bit slow... but most of the runs felt good...
i think for my street tires, trying to launch at 2000rpm or more in esp sport mode was too much spin... i think it was triggering the esp...

i tried sooo hard to get my 60' into the 1.8s...

and from what i know, the v4 tune isn't 100% complete yet... i'm assuming that's why there is no official press release type thing

I got same trap speeds with similar mods and around same DA (+1000-1400). 60ft times are impressive and consistent for street tires.

recorded my new personal best last night

changes since then was removing the stock mufflers and resonator and installing the topspeed pro-1 exhaust system with resonator delete... i didn't think i had enough gas to leave the track to the nearest gas station so i splurged and got 2 gallons of 104 race gas and made a few passes before heading home... i'm still on my nexen n3000 from when i recorded my last pb in december

DA 1144
DA Corrected - 11.681@117.476

also got my best 60' time with the race gas and TC off
1.872

this was also the first time i took the pbox to the track... i haven't looked at all the data on the card yet... but i got this pic to compare... the 1/4 times were all pretty close to the slip from what i was able to observe... but idk what is with the trap speed... from what i can remember seeing, the pbox trap speed seemed to be more in line with what i'm used to at the track...

could the track be off? it's just hard to believe i pulled a 11.8 with a trap speed of only 116.... or is it the DA?

i did notice that all my slips in the right lane of the track didn't record the 1000 ft time... could that be what is throwing the trap speed off?

looking back at some of my other slips from the same track, there were a lot of slips where the 1000 ft time didn't record.

during this trip, it looked like the left lane was working properly but the right lane wasn't recording the 1000...

here is an example of a race between a 135i (left lane) and me

60 - 2.068......................1.908
330 - 5.371.....................5.164
1/8 - 8.014@91.33...........7.815@92.69
1000 - 10.262.................000
1/4 - 12.157@118.05........12.005@114.64

It's okay to short shift 1st gear in manual mode. Try clicking the paddle at 6200 rpm in 1st gear. There should be a slight delay, maybe 500 or 600 rpm before it shifts. You'll still be well in the power band for 2nd gear. 2nd and 3rd gear should be easier to time.

Great job and glad to see someone is still racing!!

Like he said short shift the 1-2 if you need to and then the 2-3 and 3-4 will be easy. You'll get better with practice.

OR - you can always start in "S" mode and as soon as the 1-2 shift is complete put the tranny in "M" mode and make the shifts manually from there.
Worked for me!
