I put the wrong oil in my C63!!
I know, there will be several hundred views of this post and think to themselves, what an idiot. Well, I agree.
Here's the deal. My car recently needed a quart. I had two types of oil on the shelf in my garage - Mobil 1 5W-20 (for another car) and Mobil 1 0W-40 (C63). Both quarts look the same from the outside and I think I accidentally put a quart of 5W-20 in the C63! I'm not sure for certain, but just noticed this morning, there is one fewer quart of the 5W-20 left on my shelf since last week.
Should I be worried about this on a Sunday afternoon? I plan to take the car to the dealership this week for an oil change just in case, but if I did indeed put the wrong oil in my car, have I done any thing to the car I should be concerned about? Feeding my fear, I took a 500 mile road trip yesterday to see my Tar Heels defeat Boston College - wasn't a very pretty game. Certainly wouldn't be worth the trip if I damaged my car.
Feedback is appreciated. Yes, I know - I'm an idiot.

This is just my opinion since I am not an expert but logic will lead me to believe that 1 qt of M1 5/20 is better than being short 1 qt of oil.

You'd only be an idiot if you mixed synthetic and non-synthetic oils, or put power steering fluid in the oil hole.
The OP is also right, you are better off with the right amount of oil, rather than too low or too high. Mobil 1 is MB approved (229.5x) and the viscosity mismatch is not really going to do anything unless you are in *really* low temperatures.
Personally, I'd leave it be until the next scheduled change.

Thanks for all your quick responses. That does certainly puts my mind at ease. I'll probably go ahead and get the oil changed this week anyway. My car is still relatively new with only 5,000 miles and was already debating changing the oil ahead of the regular scheduled change at 10,000. Thanks again!

No worries. And for the record, even a non-synthetic would not be a disaster. The problems with the original synthetics and non-synthetics have been gone for some time. That is how they offer blended oils now.

You have nothing to worry about as 1 qt of oil isn't going to hurt the car. No oil on the other hand will. So relax.............
