H&R springs - Review

Hi everyone,

I just ordered my H&R springs... and have few questions after searching this forum?

1) I read ppl have right/left pull after installing the springs... even after alignment... any fix for this? Is it common on all the H&R springs or it's about luck?

2) I read some had to use different camber bolts during alignment... is it necessary for the install of springs or only for coilovers... if yes, what is the part number for the bolts?

3) I also read about different springs pad to adjust the height in the rear... can someone explain... are the different pads included with the H&R springs?

4) Lastly, the infamous "roll or not to roll" the rear fenders due to the separation of the fenders... what's your opinion on this matter from ppl who has done it? Some ppl shaved their wheels hubs, is it safer than rolling/shaving fenders?

Thanks in advance for your help!!

1. my car tracks pretty straight, actually feels the same as before. I have not had an alignment yet, waiting until I put summer tires on. (could be forever with this damn weather)

2. no camber bolts used. I could see these helping more in the back, adding some negative camber for just a little more space to avoid rubbing. not sure if they are even available though, haven't seem much on them.

3. springs don't come with any pads. I used the stock ones just make sure to grease them up with some white lithium if you reuse or change them. Not sure where to get them and what difference they would make or even why different sizes exist.

4. tbd. f'ing weather.

This^

The car drives straight. No pulling sideways after allignment. You can feel it's a bit stiffer when the road gets bumpy. Overall it's more of a visual than performance mod but that's what I was going for.

Don't think about it too long - just buy the springs and install them

My springs are in but I have not had it for a drive yet so for 1. or 2. no information yet and still on stock wheels and tires so no need for 4.

3. You can buy pads in different thicknesses so you can adjust the rear ride height a little. Superlubricity posted on this here: https://mbworld.org/forums/c63-amg-w...010-c63-2.html

GL with the install.

Thanks a bunch guys for the reviews... very helpful!!

1) I'm glad to hear the chance of pulling right/left is minimal, and hope an alignment will fix this if I do experience this problem.

2) I will let my alignment shop deal with the bolts (if required).

3) I guess I will be using the stock pads & keep my fingers crossed it will give me an even drop with the front.
Edit: I prefer the look with the spring pads #4 (part number A 210 325 04 84)... where can I buy this online?

4) I'm still unsure what to do if I rub? I was told by my wheel company to do 265/30 instead, but I think 265 on x10 rim looks silly stretched. I rolled my Lexus fenders w/o a problem, but didnt know our cars can't be rolled.

Mine didn't pull at all after installing coilovers but I did have some serious negative camber. Mercedes dealer installed 2 x MBA0003331071 camber bolts (not sure if this part # is just for Australia) and wheel aligned and seems fine now. The rear is non adjustable for camber though.
I looked into rolling guards but was advised against it. Mine rubs slightly where the rear guard meets the rear bumper when I have some weight in the back. My wheels are 20x9.5 with 285/25 Pirelli's.

Thanks for sharing your experience AMG-010. When comes the time to align my wheels, I will report what the dealer had to do to correct the camber front & rear.

So rolling is not recommended then, huh? Let's keep my fingers crossed that the bigger spring pads will help reduce/eliminate the chance of rubbing in the rear. Or else, I might shave the inner hub a bit or put 265/30 at the worst.

I finally received my springs from FX auto in California... big thanks to Chris Young... excellent communication, great customer service & super quick shipping... I paid on Sunday, got the tracking number on Monday & received the product on Wednesday... awesome!! I also got my larger 17mm spring pads from my local MB dealership.

Unfortunately, we just got around 15-20cm of snow last night... so springtime will never come soon enough.

^^ This is what the 17mm spring pads is (from superbublicity post):

Forgot to post this photo of the Spring Pads.

On the Left, Pad #4 (Part # A 210 325 04 84) - 17mm
On the Right, Pad #3 (Part # A 210 325 03 84) - 13mm <- This one is standard on the C63

The larger spring pads will help even out the H&R drop in the rear cuz our car sits a lil lower in the back to begin with.

Camber bolts are only for the front. If you have too much camber in the rear you'll either have to lift it a bit with spring pads or go with dog bones. (Notice you can tell which spring pad you have on by counting the numbs.) H&R claims stock alignment can be achieved without additional parts. Having pumped $5k in the suspension of my 996TT, I'm a bit hesistant just to slap springs on the C63 and hope for the best.

you said it! My old .2 GT3 had a smoother suspension and thats a track car! I'd be worried that springs will just make the ride stiffer and stiffer doesnt mean better handling.

This car needs a quality coilover set with better dampening.

I'm putting KWs on mine and I don't even intend to drop it. I just want the handling to improve. The ride is too jarring without reason.

I love the way my H&R looks & handles... I need an alignment though. :P Hope they can bring it close to specs.

I've always preferred full coil overs but on this car I'm going to resist that urge. (I've done that on both my 996TT and 993 as those cars do not react well at all to springs only).
I'm not worried about ride stiffness as the H&R street spring have only a slightly higher spring rate than the stock coils (of course if you ask them they will not tell you what the rate is). I'm also not worried about rubbing as I don't think I'm going to go larger with wheels/tires (I've been down that path with my C43 and MBZ just doesn't give you any room to play with). I think ride height on the H&R springs i've seen looks fine and you can play around with spring pads to clean it up front to back. What I am most worried about is too much negative rear camber that can't be adjusted out without installing dog bones and weird spring noises (usually caused by coil bind). The rear tires go away fast enough without ended up with more than -1.2 neg in the back.

Anyways, I'm in no particular hurry as I'm still messing with the 996TT.
