2011 C63 AMG vs 2012 C63 AMG : which one do you prefer ?

I think you're intelligent enough to know that if I could test drive both, I would have done it. In France, it is not as easy as that to test drive cars, especially AMG's.
I just didn't appreciate your previous message.
For your information, I currently own a CL 65 AMG.
So I know what is gas mileage.
I think I do have right to ask if the MCT helps fuel consumption, right ?
Moderate your words before talking.

Moi je veux le V8 6.2, pas sûr que la prochaine génération l'aura toujours.
Je pense partir sur la version 2012 face-lift.
Tu as un CL 63 AMG de quelle année ?

Hi all,
I would like to get the opinion of people who owned both the 2011 and the 2012 face-lifted.
I do have several questions :
- which one of the two models is the most comfortable ? I mean, has the ride quality/suspension been revised/improved for more comfort on the 2012 ?
- could you please tell me if the engine sound outside and inside the car is louder on one of the 2 models ? Seems that the 2011 is a bit louder, can you confirm ? Maybe more soundproof on the 2012 face-lift inside ?
- does the MCT gearbox really improve fuel consumption compared to the 7G-Tronic Speedshift Plus of the 2011 ? How much Liter/100 km could be saved ?
- is the steering feedback different or it is only the esthetic changing of the steering wheel ?
About the MCT, the only thing I'm fearing is the lack of roundness of the engine sound when changing gear, seems that there is small "explosion/fart" (maybe only in Sport+) when there is a gear changing.
I like the 7G-Speedshift Plus because it is so round and smooth when changing gear, I guess it is because it is a pure automatic gearbox with the torque converter, while there is no on the MCT. I've never test driven a MCT, for sure it would be comfortable for daily driving, with fast shifting in Comfort mode as well.
I'd be very thankful to who could answer me precisely. Please answer if you have driven both of them, to explain me the differences. The major thing for me is the engine sound, I don't know if both of them are equally loud (stock).
Thank you very much,
Armen

You state that "Seems that the 2011 is a bit louder".
So OBVIOUSLY you've heard what they both sound like, No?
I'll tell you what, I will PERSONALLY let you put your head RIGHT next to my STOCK exhaust pipe.. Then STAY PUT until I turn the key & start the engine while having my foot pressed HARD on the GAS PEDAL...
THEN, you can decide for yourself PRECISELY, if the 2012 is louder or not... if you still have ear drums
Seriously dude, I have had my share of idiot questions, but yours most definitely take the cup pal...

The 2012 interior is very nice and much better than the older models. The front end on the older models is much more aggressive. The MCT tranny is bleh. I hear loss of power from the MCT and worse results on the 1/4 track. That will be the big factor for me. If the MCT imrproves 1/4 times significantly I will make the jump.
Can you please show us?
The MCT shifts quicker than the old tranny and handles more power. The reason you see less power to the wheels is due to the removal of the torque converter and the replacement of the wet start up clutch. As soon as that wet start up clutch function opens up, more power is being absorbed to release for the next gear. This is why you see lesser dyno numbers. Power is not lossed, though it is saved for better shifting and in turn the car is quicker overall. It is a new technology in speedshift. You can read about it on the AMG website.

personally i like the look of the 2011 more it looks more agressive to me but if your going to spend that kind of money get the 2012 and get all the new bells and whistles that go with it

MBWorld Fanatic!
My opinion (and this is coming from someone who had an 09 for 3 years and a 12 for 5 months, and since I go through cars every 3 years I lease, so I dont have any need to justify my purchase artificially) anyone who says the 12 is lacking anything in comparison to the 09 is either entitled to their opinion (like styling) or is just defending what they own. The 12 trumps the 09 in every single way. Whether its looks, electronics, ride, MCT, mileage, whatever....the 12 does it better, period end of story.
Some of the things I'm reading here like different seats and things of that nature are wrong, or so minor that they are not noticeable. Everything is better on the car, and I LOVED the 09. Take it for what it is.

2011 vs 2012 ? It all depends on what you like, drive both cars and see what you like. I personally hate the new models due to my own personal reasons but I'm kind of old school in *that way and like the original on everything. *I don't like the BMW or Audi like dash and I hate the front end of the new models. Just does not look as dirty as the old model.*
Others however love everything on the new models and that's ok. So to ask a question like this is like asking if I like my girls with large breasts or small breasts. That's however is a *different topic in its self .

If $25K is not relevant, then always get the latest, no questions asked.
For me, I just couldn't afford more than a 2009, or else I would have gotten a 2010 with Keyless-GO and added MIP!

I agree 100%. I think the debate comes in when you consider cost to benefit for the differences (maybe not the question, so I apologize if I'm off topic). If you can save $8K on a 2011, or $15K on a 2010, or even $25K on a 2009 versus 2012, then you really start to ask yourself if the 2012 is really $25K more of a car than a 2009 (if it's relevant to you).

I went for a very heavily optioned 2011 C63 ($83k MSRP) over a 2012 with the basic options. I may have been able to get the lightly optioned 2012 for a little more, but P31, LSD, CF, Color etc. made the 2011 car feel a lot more special, and I am very happy with my choice. Mechanically, the 2012 cars are not a huge jump over 2011 cars. While the MCT is nice, it is not like Mercedes put a true dual clutch transmission in the 2012. Nor did they upgrade the powerplant to a monstrous 550+ hp unit to compete with the CTS-Vs and GT500s. The interior is nicer in the new cars, but you need to ask yourself how much more you'd want to pay for it.
For me, unless the C63 is significantly redesigned with a more powerful engine, dual clutch transmission and wider rear tires, going with a 2011 or 2012 boils down to personal preference and cost (mostly cost).
Now if they released a C63 in a couple of years with the upgrades mentioned above, it would be a no-brainer!

Today I test drove a '09 P30 (or 31?) because they didn't have any '12 C63s in stock and I'm interested in learning more about this beast and figured it was a good start. My background has been all M3s and I've never driven an AMG before. Well, I'm damned impressed. Unbelievable machine... a beast. OMG, I'm hooked! I wish I drove one earlier in my life... as I would have gotten the C63 over my old e90 M3 instead.
I was more than happy with the older box, interior quality, look and personally, the pre-'12 looks so much meaner... they really did soften the heck out of the '12 C63 - mainly because of the front bumper. Looks great on my wife's '12 C350, but it's so close, that it just doesn't look different enough. That's my only criticism.
Anyway, I have a real quick question. Can you adjust the seat bolsters? I'm thin and those front seats were mighty tight.
Anyway, I'm hooked. Now I just need to find a '12 or order one. I'm also contemplating the E63. I was going to test drive one today, but knew if I did, that I'd be leaving with one and my wife would have executed me.
