AFE Pro Dry S is also a fantastic solution and it is the #1 filter we recommend to all our customers. They flow just as well as other aftermarket filter but are 100% oil-free and do not damage MAS / HFM air sensors at all. They also clean with simple soap & water wash and are very affordable (usually $125-150 per pair). They will dyno roughly the same as other aftermarket high flow filters but without any of the problems that oil based filters create.

I've run K&N's for years w/o issue. But, I read the instructions about cleaning and oiling the filter. I blame the problems with oiled media on the monkey applying too much oil and installing too wet, not the product itself. It works fine if used properly.
But, I'll consider the AFE's b/c they sound good and involve less work.

Maybe you're just lucky. I was running K&Ns for many years on all of my cars until one killed the MAF on my 928, which is when I switched back to using dry paper filters.
And, either the K&N was over-oiled by a monkey at the factory, or your hypothesis that it's not the filter's fault but monkeys over-oiling them after cleaning is wrong. Just because it hasn't happened to you it doesn't mean that people that have had a problem with them are monkeys.
