I guess that works too
I usually pull extra things apart if I'm not 100% sure what I'm doing. This way just made access to those parts easier, but I guess it's not necessary if you have a good idea of what needs to be done already.

You posted a detailed tutorial and I did get to meet him in person in the SoCal meet during which he showed me what to do.

My SAM finally came back from whipple today. It takes longer than expected, but it's not whipple's fault at all and I'm happy with the result.
Basically, my old taillight had a burnt socket at the passenger side a couple months ago throwing error messages, so I brought it to dealer. There while they fixed the socket they also updated my SAM software to the latest version, which renders it unrecognizable for whipple's development software. So the reprogram seemed to reach the dead end at first. Whipple could easily refuse to keep helping me and send my SAM back. But instead he went out his way putting his own money towards a newest upgrade on the development software to make this thing work. And now my taillights and SAM work as they should and no error message is thrown. This is really class-act. I want to thank him publicly for his great job on my SAM.

master999 did u ever find out how to remove the tail lamps?
its pretty easy, 4 x 7mm (i think or was it 8mm) socket nuts. that hold it and one big plug harness that just depresses. All you need to do is remove 2 clips and pry the black lining

PS- Just checking to make sure this is normal before sending into Whipple once the group buy is ready.... But should I be getting the error message in the Dash that says "check rear right fog lamp" ?
is that the error everybody else gets before having it properly coded?
BTW, I installed AZN LEDs into the sockets in place of the 3 halogen bulbs (2brake 1 reverse)... would that maybe cause it?

Alright folks,
Thanks to some good ole' fashioned elbow grease, I figured it out. Most of this can be done with your bare hands but you will need a 9mm socket wrench to make life easier.
Step 1: Disconnect the battery. I'd suggest wearing gloves, but with the car off you should be okay without. There's one bolt you need to loosen before you pull the cable off.
Step 2: Pull out the trunk lining. There are 3 items you need to remove. 2 are the little push pins that you can remove with your fingernails. There's a center pin that feeds and lock the outer pin. I found that it was easiest to remove the center pin then the outer pin. You also need to remove the grocery hook. No trick, just pull straight out. A flat screwdriver might help here.
Step 3: There is only one bolt in the top left that you really need to remove. If you do step 2 and pull back the lining, you'll see it easily. When you remove this bolt, you can tilt the whole module forward (by forward I mean toward your left, away from the right side of the car). There is a brace on the bottom that the module appears to be attached to...you just need to tilt it far enough and you can slide it out of the bracket.
Step 4: Once step 3 is done, you can easily access everything. There are two black snap locks that secure the SAM. Press those simultaneously and shimmy out the SAM.
Step 5: There's one connector that you can squeeze to remove, but there are 3 more that you can't. Just look at the picture and press where the red arrow points, then pull the grey tab where the blue arrow is and the connector should easily pop out. Everything is color coded so you won't have to remember where it connects.
Best of luck to you, gents. I'll be mailing my SAM out to whipple today for overnight delivery and should get it back by Thursday.

I think the C63 has the battery in trunk because it's a V8. There is no room in the engine compartment for it.

I'll need to get one as well. I didn't break the one to remove the SAM, but I just noticed that my left one is super loose. I'm not sure how else to remove it other than being careful. I included a pic of the full shot of the hook so people could see how it attaches.

It's not the AZN lights. That's the same code I got. I was getting the message for the right light. The left fog was the one that was always on, but it wasn't triggering any message. The reprogram fixes both.

- glad to hear you had the same issue before reprogramming and it fixed both
- Should I disconnect my battery in the front then? What is the risk if I do not? Possibly fry the circuit in my SAM?

Yes. You might be fine without disconnecting the battery, but as a general rule, anytime you mess with the electricals, it's always a safe bet to remove it anyway. My trip ODO didn't even reset when I left it for a week so you shouldn't lose any info at all.

Does anyone know what the SAM programming entails? Is it a whole SAM update with 2012 software or is it just a small adjustment to accommodate the new tails? Reason I ask is because I have a minor issue with one of my tailights being too dim, I have read it's a result of the SAM being a little corrupted and can be fixed with a reprogramming. It would be great if the programming required for the 2012 tails fixes this by updating the whole SAM.
Also, does anyone know if the SAM controls the interior lights? My interior lights are so skittish, sometimes at night I'll open the door and after 10 seconds they'll go off, and when they do stay on, if you look really closely you can see they flicker a little. Again, it would be great if the SAM controlled the interior lights and an update could fix mine!
